RE: Beautiful Trainer

Get an Avistar. They handle the wind better than a normal trainer, fly nice and slow and also fly areobatics better than a trainer. Put a good .46 or 4st that you can use in your next plane.
I agree ,the Sig Kadet Sr ,is one of the nicest looking trainers out there. Wish Sig would make a .60 size Rascal ..

PS. I forgot to mention another reason I want a trainer even though I can fly a Cub... I don't have my wings yet (I only get to fly one month in the summer, when University is out for vacation) so a slow trainer would probably be a piece of cake to pass my test with.

It is always good to have a trainer in case you want to teach someone. My current trainer is a 6 foot electric Telemaster. Flies great in the wind, no setup time, slow as you want it to be (specially w/flaps). Relaxing like a valium...

Good luck!

I already know how to fly; I learned on a plane that was definitely not a trainer. I want a trainer now just for a relaxing flight, not really to learn much on. I doubt I'd ding it up.

You want something that the wind isn't as likely to blow all over the place, but is also more relaxing to fly. And if I'm correct, you also want something that looks good. There are a couple that come to the top of my head: One would be the Great Planes Cherokee, and the other candidate would be an RV-4. Both are capable of reasonably slow flight, and neither get knocked around by the wind as much as a Cub. If part of your ambition is to give someone a little stick time who's never flown before, then my choice would be the Goldberg Eagle 2. So there you have it!

Cyntec,

A very neat and fun to fly trainer you need? Look at the "AMR Trainer 26". You can't go wrong with this one. Takes less than a week to build and can even do amazing aerobatics.

Look at this link for video's and info's:

First of all DO NOT get a Nexstar! They fly terribly. I would look very hard to Hobby Lobby and their Telemaster series, They fly great. Otherwise I vote for the Kadet seris as well. Problem is they are hard to find now. Too bad. The Telemasters are available though.

Hi Cyntec,
Have a look at this one. A guy at our field has one and it looks great and flies super. https://shop.graupner.de/webuerp/ser...RTN=6279&PIC=1

Looks great except I don't speak German (I think it's German anyway). Is it Taxi Cab II in English?

Another plane to look at is the Sig Four Star. Comes in three sized in both kit and ARF.

Agree with grimmace, don't do a Nexstar. There are many trainers that are much better handling planes (pretty much any of them mentioned in this thread). If you can handle a plane that flys a little faster and lands a little hotter than a Cub, the SIG somethin extra is a great plane. It's my 'first plane of the day" when I go to the field.

Has anyone flown a Vmar Discovery? My instructor insists I buy one instead of any other trainer.

my vote is for a Sig Something Extra (SSE) on low rates it is very docile, it will fly way slower then my trainer and still maintain full flight controls. and if you've already been flying a Cub, take offs, landings & ground manners with an SSE will seem like it almost does it by itself.

was going to upload a pic but it's on the other PC

[img]I know what you mean when it comes to a plane that get blown all over and you just wanna go up and fly. I have a Goldberg Eagle II had it for about 20 years and never had a problem. If i was looking for a trainer i would be looking at the alpha trainer by hanger 9 http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ProdID=HAN4400

But another plane that i love flying and is really a trainer at heart is the towerhobbies kaos 40. Its a 55" wing and runs great on any .46 motor. The best part is the wind doesnt move it at all. Also it has a trainer style wing so it has those self correcting tendencies that your looking for in a trainer. This plane can really grow with you too. It lands like a high wing trainer and you can land it hot like a jet. But its a great plane to learn on and i would recommend it to anyone. plus i think its around 100 bucks for a ARF from towerhobbies. Also the pics on the site look horrible so i attached one of mine.

I vote for the Sig Kadet Senior ARF. I just got one in July from Graves Hobby. Sig had them back order and was not getting any until September-October this year. I have like many others converted my kadet to a taildragger, there are many threads on RCU which detail this process very well. My kadet is powered with a Saito 80 and flys very well. I have attatched several pictures of mine on its maiden flight day with the cowl removed.
