Servo Screw Size
 

I took out some JR servos out of a Dolphin that had a battery fire. The fire destroyed the servo leads. I'm replacing with TH servos with one little problem. The holes in the mounting plate are too big for your #2 servo screw. A #4 screw seems to work ok. My problem is that the #4 will fit through the servo gromments but not the eyelet. Can I leave the eyelet off and just use the rubber gromment or do I need to apply new plywood under the old holes so that I use th eyelet.

I read somewhere that JR uses a #3 screw for servo mounting. I do not know if that is fact or just something "on the internet"

You mean your not suposed to just epoxy them in the servo tray?[X(]

Check out the #3 screw like caerellh said but I have gotten to where I just pitch the screws that come with any servo and I use the socket head screws available here. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXFRM2&P=ML
Yes, it's more money but it's nice to be able to go to any of my planes with my allen wrench and remove and/or replace any servo.

You can also just fill the screw holes with epoxy and redrill them to the correct size after it's hard.

Epoxy in toothpick tips and start over with new holes.

I have several sizes of servo screws from Micro Fastener but a lot of the time I just do what Charlie says and use tooth picks to fill in the holes and start over. Easy and free.

Do not leave the brass bushing out that will allow over compression of the grommet and prevent vibration isolation. Also always make sure the flange on the grommet is not under the screw head but the other side.

I too any more only use the #2 box heads from Microfasteners any more and yes the JR's are number 3's but would be pointless for you to chase them down.

like the fellows have said just stick a round toothpick in each hole as far as it will go. But epoxy is not needed I just drip a drop of thin CA on each one then cut off and drill much easier than trying to drill through the epoxie accurately in such a small hole. Piece-O-cake
