Mitre cut
Is this a good tool to have for stick builds? Any other uses?

RE: Mitre cut
I use this one [link=http://www.micromark.com/CHOPPER-II,8044.html]chopperII[/link] I used to use just a razor blade. After I started to use the chopperII I was hooked and will never build again without it.

ORIGINAL: ppkk Is this a good tool to have for stick builds? Any other uses? http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...XG873&P=ML I use a knife for the thin stuff and a thin Xacto saw for anything above 1/8" |
RE: Mitre cut
buzzard,
It looks like the same concept as the ChooperII. I was also wondering if it crushes balsa while it cuts. Sounds like you like yours, so am I to assume this is not an issue? |
RE: Mitre cut
I use a Zona razor saw for cutting sticks, and I will give a quick swipe on the sanding bar if the angle isn't perfect.

RE: Mitre cut
If it crushes the wood, you need a new blade. It does not crush anything when sharp. I have used it up to 3/8 with out a problem. it will even do 1/8 hardwood.

RE: Mitre cut
It is definitely a good tool and one option. I also have the Chopper and use it from time to time. My regular old X-acto miter box gets used most though. I tis similar to this: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXLH61&P=ML

RE: Mitre cut
The Fourmost Miter Saw http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXG875&P=ML lets you choose any angle and is great for stick building
The Miter Sander http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&P=SM&I=LXG876 and angled slides http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXJVA4&P=M add even more flexibility for getting a perfect fit. My brother has the cutter mentioned in the first post and he likes it too. He is building an SE-5 and the back of the fuselage is all sticks. You do have to keep a sharp blade in it to prevent crushing. Maybe we need all three. Use the saw to get close. Use the razor blade to get really close. Use the sander for ultra fine tuning. |
RE: Mitre cut
Zona saw and a sanding block is all you need. I hang the piece over the edge of the table and sand with the block for minor angle correction. Of course my table is a solid core door.
However, sometimes I cut it twice and it is still too short. |
