Four Star Scale...
can someone tell me what "scale" a Sig Four Star 60 would be classified as?
i understand its not quiet 1/4 scale, so would that make it 1/5 scale? thanks for any help... |
RE: Four Star Scale...
It is not a rendition of any existing full-size aircraft so it is not scale.
It would be a generic 1/6 or maybe 1/7 scale of a "real" aircraft assuming a single pilot fit in the cockpit. It is ".60 size" in the same way that it would be "Giant Scale" if it had at least an 80" wingspan. |

RE: Four Star Scale...
it all depends how big the full scale version is. probably 1/6 scale like charlie said

RE: Four Star Scale...
What wingspan do you think that imaginary airplane would have?
Something like a RV-4? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Van's_Aircraft_RV-4 Once you decide on that wingspan or fuse lenght, use this formula: Scale = Model dimensions / Full scale dimensions = 1/X Using wingspan: Scale = Model wingspan (inches) / Full scale wingspan (inches) = 1/X Regards! |
RE: Four Star Scale...
The Great Planes 1/5 scale pilot is too wide for the 4-Star cockpit, so go with a 1/6 scale, even though IMO the 1/6 scale pilot looks way too small. If the 4-Star was a "real" plane that would make the wingspan 36 feet, and that's way too big for a single seat acrobatic plane.

RE: Four Star Scale...
I have a Sheri Lewis "Lambchop" finger puppet in my Contender 60 and a "Happy Meal" Benjie Mouse (from the Cinderella movie) in my Hot Stik 40. Both sliced as needed and cemented and laced in place.
Good pilots are where you find them. Check out the PEZ dispensers in a grocery store for a likely Four Star pilot. If it looks small, look at a pilot in a P-47 or a F4F Hellcat. Those are BIG low wing monoplanes compared to the pilot. |

Continuing with the RV-4 as full scale reference:
Specifications (Typical RV-4) General characteristics • Crew: pilot • Capacity: 1 passenger • Length: 20 ft 4 in (6.20 m) • Wingspan: 23 ft (7.01 m) Specifications Four Star 60 Wingspan: 71 in Length: 57 in Using wingspan: 71 in / 23 ft = 71 in / 276 in = 1/3.88 ~ 1/4 scale Using fuse length: 57 in / 23 ft 4 in = 57 in / 244 in = 1/4.28 ~ 1/4 scale Suggestion: When using a cartoon pilot, there is no need for exact scale. |
