What RTF or ARFs roll fastest?
I'm looking for a RTF that with at least a 2 to 1 power to weight ratio, fairly large, that will roll very quickly. I've seen some profile planes at the field do this but didn't get the model names. Doesn't have to be a profile though. Only thing that comes to mind is a Twist. Any suggestions would be appreciated. If there aren't any RTF's you can think of please suggest a ARF.
Thanks. |

GP Dazzler or Tower Uproar.

RE: What RTF or ARFs roll fastest?
The plane that I have found to roll the fastest was the Sig Somethin Extra. It's a blast to fly but a pain to clean up because it rolls so fast. Every surface of the plane will wind up with exhaust residue and oil on it becuase the plane rolls fast enough to coat them all!!!

Anyone familiar with one of these http://www.ohiomodelplanes.com/47edgearf/index.htm ?

I agree with Ken, the Sig SE does roll really fast,,,,,,,FAST!!!! I'd recommend it.

RE: What RTF or ARFs roll fastest?
Hi,
I agree with you guys. The SIG SE really rolls fast. A little bit expensive but it's worth the extra money. |
RE: What RTF or ARFs roll fastest?
Is the Sig something extra available to load into Real Flight so I can take a look with the sim? Also, I know it's a kit but is anyone familiar with how the MoJo rolls http://www.swanyshouse.com/mojo/mojo.aspx ?

You can download it on the knife edge pages.
The real version flies better than the RF version (realflight version stall easily). Don't forget to select the high rates to roll faster. |

I just built a Reactor Biplane a few weeks ago and it rolls faster than any other 3D or aerobatic plane I have ever seen. You have four full length ailerons with up to 45 degrees of deflection, each with its own servo. It's a 60 size plane but I have an OS .75 AX. With some speed it rolls about 4 to 5 times per second.

RE: What RTF or ARFs roll fastest?
Thanks to everyone so far.
I own a Goldberg Ultmate with an OS120 in it and Reactor electric that I have yet to build and I know they roll fast but the 3D planes I've seen, without seeing the names, roll faster and that's what I'm looking for, anything that really rolls really quickly. In Realflight so far looking around, the 3ED, Flat out Extra 300S, and espeically the Extra Special look like some of the fastest rollers. I also downloaded the Sig Something Extra and tried that and it was very good. |
RE: What RTF or ARFs roll fastest?
Call me ignorant if you wish but just don't know why anyone wants to roll fast? To do really nice rolls one must be able to add the slight up and down elevator at proper time especially when doing rolling circle. So give me a clue as to why really fast rolls.

RE: What RTF or ARFs roll fastest?
So far I'm leaning towards the Edge 540 from Ohio Models. The MoJo is a kit and I don't want to mess with that much assembly. I'll post what I end up ordering, which will be hopefully by tomorrow. Any more suggestions on fast rolling planes would be appreciated. Thanks.

RE: What RTF or ARFs roll fastest?
+3 on the Somethin extra, will roll extremely fast, and as Tedmo alluded, at full speed and full throws, you will have to be very quick on the elevator to keep up with it.

RE: What RTF or ARFs roll fastest?
As soon as I read the thread title one plane came to mind... The Sig Something Extra... Then I read your requirement for 2:1 power to weight ratio. You will have to put abour a Saito .82 at minimum with a 14x4 prop to acheive this and the stock landing gear will only allow you to put a 12 inch prop on it and that is still verry close to a prop strike if you cant do a 3 point landing. Try a any profile from Ohio Model Products as they are designed to have clearence for big props.

RE: What RTF or ARFs roll fastest?
Most any short coupled plane with over size controls will spin very fast. Make it really light weight and add huge control surfaces and shazam!!! I know you are an ARF person but I will give you two really hot rod planes you would have to build from plans. Go into MAN plans just for fun and look at the Fun Fly Hots, Mr. Santich really out did himself on this one. While you are in MAN plans go look up the Knight Twister Imperial, this is a bigger plane and again designed by Mr. Santich. Both of these planes got with the program. The Bipe with twin ailerons was something to behold. By just looking at these planes design it will give you and idea about control surfaces and coupling. I think Gene just built the NOTFORSALE from MAN plans, that's one I haven't ever built but it really gets with it.

No contest, pick any .32-.45 sized delta for the fastest rolls. If you want to see a red and white plane turn pink, crank in about 1/4" of elevon throw on high rates.

RE: What RTF or ARFs roll fastest?
I have a Funtana 50X with a Saito 82. It will roll faster than you can count, literally. The Sig SE is a better sport plane, but the Funtana is wilder.

You may still be able to find a Goldberg Hot Stik. On high rates and full throw it rolls too fast to count. Like four to the second!
HUGE ailerons and four servos/panels. I've got a Thunder Tiger Pro-46 with a Perry carb on mine and with an 11x4 APC prop it turns at 14,700 rpm and will shoot straight up out of a torque roll no problem. I can take off at 1/4 throttle. Since these images I've given the engine a 90ยบ turn so the muffler hangs below the fuselage. Looks better IMHO. Second image was taken during a roll. You can see 1/2" deflection or so and there's another 2" available! I usually fly 80% lower rates with 60% exponential! |
