Hey Guys :)what do you think is the best hinges for a .60 size plane ?

Completely depends on the plane. That's kinda like asking what are the best tires for a 4 door car.

IMHO - you can't beat Radio South CA hinges, available at most hobby stores. Been using them for many years without a single hinge failure to date.

I like the plastic pin hinges. You can remove the pins if ever necessary, and there is less resistance to the control surface (though I'm not sure how much that really matters). CA hinges are very quick and easy to install and I have not had one fail yet, either. If one does fail, though, you have to cut them all to make a repair. Plastic hinges use a different glue that takes longer to bond and install, but gives you more time to get them right.

The Heavy duty Dubro hinges that come with a little brass cotter pin will not let you down.
I pin them with round tooth picks to the surrounding wood.
On certain planes I could not care less about which hinges are the easiest to install.

I have switched almost exclusively to Robarts. I just enjoy the hinging process more with them. The drill jig makes it pretty idiot-proof as long as you accurately mark both surfaces.

After I drill, I like to use a small round file to notch a pocket for the knuckle. When I cover, I run the corner of the iron through this pocket, and it all fits very nicely.

Mclina you use my install to a tee. I use a cone shaped deburring tool for the die grinder, except I just use it with my fingers. 3 turns into both surfaces and the knuckle pretty much disappears. I've had CA hinges break on me and replaced them with robarts. Too much CA on the hinge makes it brittle, my theory anyway. Wet the hole with a Q-tip and place a little pacer hinge glue and 30 minutes later your flying. I heat some Vaseline and dip the knuckles in the liquid Vaseline both sides. Had a funfly the next day and the night before went to charge my mustang. Noticed the aileron CA hinge was cracked. Set the alarm for 7:00am and in less then an hour had both sides changed and car packed by 8:30am. Flying the Stang by 9:30. My vote for the 2009 hinge of the year.......Robart. :D

I also use Robarts quite often. Only thing is, you need to have enough balsa that is thick enough so the hinge is not real close to the edges. I will say that I have never had a CA hinge break or pull out. I use them mostly up to 60 size. Robarts after that. I use the pacer hinge glue also.

Dubro hinge pins or there flat hinges. You should add wood behind whare they are going to go like in MCs photo, just needs to be some flat stock balsa so you have more gluing area. I used to always pin my hinges too but when I went back to using Pacer hinge glue I found they werent needed if you glue the hinges in correctly. There isn't really anything wrong with CA hinges if they are installed correctly too. Just another one of those choice things again.
