Recommendations for a .25 plane
 

I'm having the toughest time getting my Modeltech Cub .25 cub going. This thing has been cursed from the beginning and I am ready to cut my losses on it and move on.

I've got a .25 engine, 4 servos, Hitec 555 receiver and battery all looking to go fly. What I want is something that flies nicely with minimal investment - money and emotionally. I just want a fun flyer.

I've thought about Spad, but had never gone down this road before. Maybe its worth thinking about. Outside of that, what would you recommend? I don't care of it is scale or not. Just want a cheap bird to throw out on the grass and go fly.

I'm not a huge fan of spads, but they can fly OK. They end up heavier than a traditional balsa plane, but sometimes their toughness is an OK tradeoff over performance. Over at the SPAD forum there is a fairly new thread about a .15 sized flying wing that you could size up a little.
I'll bet this plane would give you what you're looking for, with a working rudder it should be a hoot.

None of these are 'beginner' planes but I think your prior posts say you know how to fly.

Go to Towerhobbies and look up the Phoenix Model's Sonic Trainer. They have a high wing and low wing ARF available for less than $100.

EDIT: looks like Carrelh already beat me to it.

That low wing Sonic from Phoenix Models is a great, inexpensive choice for a ball bearing .25. Fly the crap out of mine and it makes me look way better than I am.

any park 400 size electric is a good candidate for a .25, ultra fly makes a pretty cool FW190 that I've been eye balling. BH models makes a few good looking .25/electric planes you may consider. depending on your experience for flying and modifying/building there is quite a few options out there.

The Wingmaker Trainer 1 is an excellent airplane and designed for either an electric installation or a 25. I highly reccomend this one.

Another excellent ship in that size is the Sig LT-25

The LT-25 is a kit. I love building kits, but just want something super easy for this .25. Something that if I crash, I can get over it after a beer or two.

I am trying to resurrect this cub ARF I have. If I finally give up, I think I'll get the low wing Sonic - its cheap and looks fun.

This is the Wingmaker 1, it is ideal for what you want to do and the 25 is an ideal engine for it. Its quite lite and slightly smaller than the traditiona 40/46 sized trainer.

In a word with a good 25 they are 'superb' and a wonderful flyer. There is nothing better in a trainer for a twenty five sized airplane. There are are seven or eight running around our field now and I have flown all of them. Most guys start hanging 40/46's on them and thats a mistake. The smart ones have gone back to the 25's. Will fly better than any with a 25FX.

This I would recommend over the low wing sonic any day for you. It not expensive either.
