Name this Plane
1 Attachment(s)
I recently acquired this plane dirt cheap...The seller on Craigslist listed it as a Kaos, but i know better than that... Just by looking at it i can tell it is at least 20+ years old, it came with a ST Saturno 60, Rx and servos which i will replace with 821s that i had for a "spare" plane... All for 100 bucks
Can anyone identify the name of this model? sorry for the horrible pics i took then in the evening with my cell phone. |
RE: Name this Plane
noe ringing a bell but if its a 60 it 's probably pre 1980 if it is a non schnurle engine it would be pre 1976

RE: Name this Plane
Metallica,
It may be the Bridi Kaos. I have a similar looking plane and that is what the people in my club said it was. The current Kaos is a mid-wing while the Bridi is a low-wing. Hope this helps, KW_Counter |

This is a Bridi Kaos 60 size, I tried to get a photo of the same angle you are showing. I made some mods on this one though, I made a much longer fin and made the rudder bigger plus it's a tail dragger. Joe Bridi made several designs of this plane with slight mods plus Tower had the kits for a time and made some slight changes. I have some plans for some of his early designs and they all used the same wing but have a shorter fuse. Your plane may be one of the early designs?? Hard to tell from the photos. Also, most of the small pattern planes from the 60s through the 70s looked quite a bit alike, I built a Daddy Rabbit from 1966 and it may have shorter moments but it still looks a lot like a Kaos.
I went ahead and added a photo of the DR too so you could see what I'm talking about. |
RE: Name this Plane
MetallicaJunkie,
You could try to find a similar model at this collection of pictures of Classic Pattern models: http://www.trentonrcflyers.com/pattern/patternk.htm It seems that the wing is non-tappered, and that the vertical fin is swept back; not like any of the Kaos. |
RE: Name this Plane
the kaos has a double tapered wing as the one in the pic is constant chord.also has a thick airfoil more of a sport type design than pattern.

RE: Name this Plane
Ok thanks for the help guys, ill call it a Kaos then.... i cant believe the engine and plane are older than i am(30) It is in great shape. I think i might have a new favorite sport plane:D

RE: Name this Plane
Looks like a Sig KIWI with the ailerons not tapered at the tips

RE: Name this Plane
Definitely not a "Kaos". As stated earlier, the wing is wrong. Also the horizontal stabilizer is very different from any "Kaos" I have owned or observed. Having said that, I don't know what it is.

RE: Name this Plane
w8,
what are the spec on the kiwi ?for some reason I thought it was a small plane |

I think you are right. It had a 54" wing. A little big for a "40" and a little small for a "60" http://www.wattflyer.com/forums/atta...p;d=1201131991 |
RE: Name this Plane
That definitely looks like the plane i have!!!!What a coincidence W8ye we both have the same Snoopy pilot/furure with the huge moustache
|
RE: Name this Plane
W8 comes through again!!!!! Between you John and RainDave I figure you guys have seen and can remember any plane ever made!!! I can't remember ever seeing or taking notice of the KIWI??

OK...I'll stir the pot... Could it be a KwikFly?
|
RE: Name this Plane
I have a Global ARF Kwik Fly with a wing like yours but the tail is different on mine
One thing with Kwik Fly's there are at least 4 different versions of them |
RE: Name this Plane
ORIGINAL: safeTwire OK...I'll stir the pot... Could it be a KwikFly? wow that looks like mine too |
RE: Name this Plane
it would help to compare if you posted the wingspan, chord and length of your plane
|
RE: Name this Plane
Considering that a "Kiwi" is a flightless bird, could this plane have been named after Wisscassett airport(KIWI) here in Maine? Just a thought?
|
RE: Name this Plane
ORIGINAL: w8ye Looks like a Sig KIWI with the ailerons not tapered at the tips The Kiwi's rudder strake is longer and the trailing edge is slightlytapered not just at the tip. But the plane in question has straight wings. What's unusual is the elevator extending behing the rudder. That rules out the Kik Fly and the Taurus |
RE: Name this Plane
Is the rudder mounted? Or is that just the vertical fin? I cant really tell from the photo.
Hey MJ...Turn up the juice in the lava lamp so we can get more detail!:D |

RE: Name this Plane
Snoopy Rules!
Your plane looks like it will fly well. Thick airfoil for plenty of lift, clean lines for aerobatics. Good luck with it and Enjoy! |
RE: Name this Plane
I don't know what it is but the wing looks like its a Goldberg Sr Falcon wing.

RE: Name this Plane
After w8ye posted the pictures I have a theory. Could it be a bashed Sr Falcon? The fuse has been flipped and shortened, the wing is straight with a a rib dropped and the rudder has been used. The horizontal stab has been built up using 1/4 sq rather than the airfoil stab of the original. It just a theory.

RE: Name this Plane
I've seen the plane before but it has been so many years, I cannot remember the name. It was a brand name kit at the time.
Seems like the olriginal was done up in a US military scheme? EDIT: Here's what I was thinking was a Top Flite Contender but that is not it either after comparing details http://www.top-flite.com/airplanes/topa0210.html Certainly is a summation of pattern lines of that era? RE: Name this Plane
I just keep looking at that wing. The tip and the airfoil shape reminds me of my first rc plane. It's been 35+ plus years, but you never forget your first.:)
|
RE: Name this Plane
Now I've dtermined I'm wrong. I forgot that the Goldberg wing was not sheeted forward of the spar. I guess nothing is as we remember it. Sigh................
|
RE: Name this Plane
are there any part numbers visible on any fuse formers or wing ribs?if not could be built from plans .
|
RE: Name this Plane
i can look.... im gonna send this thread to a fellow RC veteran Jim Marshall...He is the club expert.
I ought take some more pics of it in good lighting conditions.... He said it may be World Engines Hawk 460, a Bridi Quickee 500 (club racer), , or a scratch built ..i guess ill let this thread rest and enjoy my "new" plane...I put in digital std servos (821's) and a trusty OS 61 SF w/tuned pipe Edit i did a quick search here and its neither model mentioned above ..... ohh well:) |

RE: Name this Plane
Thought it was time to re-post the original so we had a comparison for there is certainly some F86 shape to it

ORIGINAL: lnewqban Picture copied from E-bay: No, I didn't mean it actually was an F86, it just sort of looked like it. |
RE: Name this Plane
Is the yellow wing stripe painted or a decal? If it is a decal, maybe that will help with identification.
(That yellow trim pattern on the wing does ring a bell, but I cant remember who it is at the door!):) |
