Being new to this hobby, I'm wondering what are the standard items that should be included in your field box. I've seen some threads regarding toll boxes bought at home depot and converted into field boxes, but I haven't seen anything on the contents of the field box. So, help me fill my field box with the necessary items. :D

I've been really into this for a few years now...This is what I have in mine.

Stuff for maintenance and repair-
Big and little screw drivers of every type

A whole set of those tiny screw drivers

Set of metric AND standard allen wrenches

A couple self-tapping screws just in case

Tape

Pliers (that how you spell it?) needle nose and some big ones

4 way wrench for the glow plug and prop nut

Extra prop nuts

Extra props

Extra glow plugs

Extra wheel collars

Extra fuel tubing

CA glue (never hurts to be prepared!)

As far as stuff you need to fly-

The glow igniter

Chicken stick for starting

Fuel

Fuel pump

Transmitter!

That's all I can think of right now...Did I miss anything? I've got a few more things in mine like a field charger, 12 volt battery, volt meter, tachometer, an extra muffler, and some other stuff. Until you feel the need for it all, I'm sure you can barrow that type of thing from other guys at the field. I know I wouldn't mind...

You might notice I didn't mention a starter. I don't use a starter and never have...I think it's worthless weight!

Seriously..... I wish I could get rid of my bigger battery and starter. The fact is.... sometimes I am glad that it is there. ...lownslo...

I think we all wish we could do away with the weight. I have just had those days where flipping the prop just won't do it. I like having the starter there.

Since you're a beginner like me, you might have a trainer with a rubber band on wing. I took everything but the kitchen sink the first time I went out, but forgot the rubber bands. :-D

I carry an extra sub-C cell for my glo starter in a 35mm film container that I have screwed to the inside edge of the field box. My field charger is a model without the built-in glo charger. Having the extra battery is so much easier than carrying, and hooking up a field charger for the glo starter anyway. Besides.... I can be ready to use it in about 15 seconds. ;) .....lownslo

Don´t bother with a whole set of both types of allen wrenches, and every conceivable type of screwdriver you own... bring the sizes that match the screws on your plane.

Leave the workshop at home, bring what you need to fly and for *minor* repairs. If you get into the habit of checking and performing maintenance on your plane after every flying session, you probably can catch problems before having to repair them at the field.

I've got the BIG Sig field box (man, is that thing heavy!). Since I usually bring more than one plane, I have to carry some extra stuff...

Gal bottle of fuel for the .15 & larger engines

Qt bottle of 35% for the 1/2A's

Fuel bulb or fueler

Starter

Glow driver & charger (our field has electricity in the pavilion)

Tx & Rx charger

Spare TX battery

Allen wrenches

Couple of small screwdrivers

needlenose and regular pliers

Spare control horns, clevises, ball links, servo arms, wheel collars, etc. in small clear plastic boxes.

Single-edge razor blades

Medium CA & 5-minute epoxy, small mixing cups and craft sticks, and a couple of flux brushes.

Small zip ties

And of course, a few extra props...

i carry an electric starter with me though, damn SC .12 just won't start without it :stupid:

don't forget snacks and drinks too

and 5 min epoxy

and wing bolts :D

and fuel pump

i only carry what i need to fly in the field box. extra props, glow plugs, rubber bands, and so on. i have all my tools in a tool box in the truck. (small one from walmart) if i don't need them they stay in the truck. my kids call it the crash box. it only comes out when i crash. loren

I don't see a need for a glow igniter charger... I've flown a whole weekend (over 20 flights) without charging it again.

They only run down if you need that starter... :p

A little advice for beginners. Make sure and have plenty of spare consumable items. Especially of you are low on cash and have to select what you buy to equip your box. Concentrate on spare props, glow plugs, rubberbands and fuel. R/C people are the greatest and most giving people in the world, and will do anything to help you out...this is especially true when it's no skin off their back to loan you tools to fix something, a hit with their starter, a fresh glow driver for a start, or even a quick charge to keep you flying...but beginners that show up with the latest greatest flight box decked out with power panel and fancy starter etc, can quickly wear out their welcome when they rely on the club regulars for the simple consumable items...because their new trainer only came with one of them. In other words, if you don't have the cash to buy a starter and glow driver yet, pit next to me and use mine all day no problem. But if you show up with a fancy flight box and new starter...by the time you've begged a 2nd glow plug and 3rd prop from me...I'll be sending you to the hobby shop.

When I flew glow, I carried a battery, glow igniter, starter, fuel pump, and fuel!
