Super Chipmunk
Hey Guys,
I have been away from the hobby for a few years due to several reasons. One was because of Katrina :( another due to family issues. But I am at a point where I want to get back to flying :)) I have a chance to pick up a mint condintion CG Super Chipmunk kit for a decent price. So I have a few questions. 1.) Would this be a good low wing plane to start off with? 2.) If I do go with this kit, what are some mods that should be done? I know I will get lots of answers on the mods lol, cause I know everybody has there own opinion :) Thanks |
RE: Super Chipmunk
Where were you when you last flew? Already on a low wing, on your ?th high wing. If you havn't flown low wing yet, try a 4 star 40, or 60.
Do get the Carl Goldberg Chipmunk, Great flying model! May be best if you answer this question. Welcome back, and hope you get to fly alot. -Snuts- |
RE: Super Chipmunk
Hi LonnieMcc,
Don't let the "Chippy" get away it is one of my favourite models but probably not where you should resume flying unless you were confident with a low wing, flys where you point it type of model. If you were confident on a low wing model a few sessions on the buddy box and the Chippy should suit. I would concur with"snuts" advice re a 4 star or similar before the chippy if you need to go this route to rebuild your confidence but buy the chippy even if you don't fly it for a while:D. With regards to chippy mods I would suggest that you go with a servo in each wing for the ailerons and reinforce the landing gear mounting points and overpower it slightly with a good 75 two stroke. Merry Christmas and good luck, Colin |
RE: Super Chipmunk
Do a search on the Chippy, They are a great flying bird I have 2 of them:D but they are not a first low wing plane. Get it and keep it you will be glad you did. Get some thing like a 4* 40 or 60 to start with just to get back in the grove;)

RE: Super Chipmunk
The Chipmunk is a great plane. Do not let it get away. Get it if even to hang it in the garage until you are comfy to fly it.
Build it with flaps, bend the gear forward a little to help with nose overs, run a .61 2 stroke or .91 4stroke. Start reading the threads on it. You will need a couple days to read through them. Dru. |
RE: Super Chipmunk
The Goldberg Chipmunk is one of the best kits and flying planes out there. It is hard to miss with a Chipmunk.... Good Luck, Dave
