Post Xmas deals
 

I posted this in the Clubhouse this morning and got 0 replies, so here goes:

Mods, if this is not appropriate for this section, feel free to pull it.

Last Xmas I was able to find some amazing deals out there being that the economy was just crashing and a few places were going out of business. Now, does anyone have any leads on good deals out there? I don't have anything that I know yet, but as I scan the web I will report back anything I see.

IMO, All I've seen is a few dollars off on Aircraft related items.

gotten emails of sales, nothing really exciting. Tower has its usual spend this much get this much off. But all the item specific sales are only a few bucks off, nothing getting me to rip the plastic out of my wallet (although its gotta be a awsome deal fore me to do that as cash is tight)

This is a good post, and would hope that it wouldn't be pulled. Last year about February Hobby People had Magnum XLS .46's on sale for $47 with free shipping. Couldn't resist that one. Will Subscribe to this and report if I see anything.

I perused Hobby People's latest ad, but didn't see anything too exciting either. They had the magnum's on sale for $49 just before Xmas, but I don't think the shipping was anything exceptional. I got the .52 4S last year for $75 plus $5 shipping, last year. Hopefully something good will pop up.

BTW, Hobbyking has the ASP .52 2S for $49 everyday, but you have to pay for the shipping.

I have a Free Shipping sale through the end of the year, but like you say I guess it's not that deep of a cut. :)

"Xmas" and "X-mas" are common abbreviations of the word "Christmas". They are sometimes pronounced /ˈɛksməs/, but they, and variants such as "Xtemass", originated as handwriting abbreviations for the correct pronunciation /ˈkrɪsməs/. The discussion is a bit off topic, but the issue of Christ and Christmas is a hot button for me as I am an evangelical pastor. Christmas, as it is celebrated in the United States, has jack squat to do with Christ or the Church. It is a holiday centered on gift giving, time with family, sentimentality, and rest. Much of that is good, but it is not uniquely Christian. At best, Christmas promotes a general sense of altruism (mostly via Dickens) and a slow down time to be with loved ones. At worst, is promotes a vulgar materialism based on greed, especially in children. Many people attend church only at Christmastime, putting a religious celebration right in there with drinking wassail (sp?) and watching Kevin beat up those two burglars.
The original Church practice of Christmas was actually quite somber and reflective, a special mass service to commemorate the incarnation of the Christ, hence "Christ Mass." Easter was the real party day originally, since the Easter event was the real message of the Church. It was only after Christian practice blended with some rather bawdy pagan rituals that were too fun to die that Christmas became such a big deal within Christian cultures.

I just got the new (March 2010) issue of Model Airplane News yesterday, and it has a Hobby People ad in it for prices good Jan 10th through February 28th. The Magnum XL .52 RFS will be on sale again this year, this time for $79.99. I already have two of these absolutely wonderful 4-strokes, and at that price I'll likely pick up one or two more.

They will once again be offering the new Airtronics SD-10G radio system with the 7-channel 2.4Ghz FHSS receiver (just one receiver) for only $349.99.

If you're looking for an advanced radio system or a terrific engine for your .40-size planes, both of these are spectacular deals!

how well does 5% or 0% nitro work in those things, my magnum .91fs doesnt mind 5%, havnt tried 0% yet. im wondering because i mix my own fuel for 7 bucks a gallon (0% nitro 16.6% castor) i like 4 strokes but if they wont run on my cheapo fuel i wont bother.

I'm not sure how they run on 5, but I always run mine on 10% and have had great luck. Never have used 5% in anything. I love my .52 and will probably pick up one or two more, maybe just to have around as they are a great investment and run amazing. Thanks for the heads up.

I just bought  the Airtronics RDS8000 from Hobby People for a little under 170 after shipping.  Its the best price I have found.  Tower has it for 199 before shipping.  I waited too long and missed out on the 2 reciever deal.  I know the 170 has been the price for awhile now, but it could go back up to roughly 200 at any time.  I have been watching the on-line stores for awhile and I just never seem to see a real great deal on anything that interests me.  The great deals seem to always be on closeout (not manufactured anymore) items.  Things I actually need, like servos, batteries/charger,  etc.  just never seem to be on sale for any great price.  At least, I havent found anything.

Online retailers sell stuff so close to cost it's tough to find big discounts unless it's a closeout or has something wrong with it.
