One way that works well for me is to make some sort of strap or hanger that you can wrap around your plane in away that it does not do damage and then hang it from the rafters in the ceiling via a nail.

Some other ways I have seen are taking the wing off the plane and hanging the fuselage by the tail feathers on a rack with posts sticking out. Then for the wings you can build another rack out of pvc piping or something. You would make it go up vertical and have a set of posts sticking out which you would rest the wings on. Depending on how many sets of posts you go up, you could build it to hold as many wings as you need.

I dont have any pictures right now but I am sure someone else will post pictures of something similar.

storing planes is easy with some shelf standards( the adjustable type) they come in several lengths, and some shelf brackets, foam pipe insulation works for padding the brackets, it makes for a fully adjustable plane rack I have a couple of smaller ones over my work area the 4" size, but the standards come in 4-6-8' sizes.

you can buy them at any home improvement store, Home Depot, Lowes, Wally World etc...

I don't. I have my trailer in the garage, it has 1 plane in it. There are 2 in my bathroom, 2 in my dining room, 1 on top of my TV entertainment center, 1 hanging from my livingroom ceiling, 3 + 1 heli in one bedroom upstairs and 1 heli in the other bedroom. But none in my kitchen..ya gotta draw the line somewhere.
Do I got a problem? Does my name suit me? Yeah Buddy.

The attached photo is from an idea that I got from Minnflyer. You take a 2x4 and drill 1/2" holes in it equally spaced down the middle of the board at an angle (15 degrees). Then when you mount it to the wall (I used concrete fasteners), you just plug 1/2" dowels into the board as you go and hang the tails from it. I think I can hang 6 on one 8' 2x4. It cost all of maybe $4 to build one rack and it is strudy. The angle keeps the dowel from bending and sliding out.

Regards,
Curtis

LOL, I was just about to post a pic of mine Curtis :D

Here's another dandy idea. I picked one of these up in Toledo a few years ago and I love it:

You are too cool. My wife won't allow any "hobby stuff" in the house. Thus the garage is my sanctuary... hehhehe. Also, thanks for the Slow Stick tip on the other thread.

But back to the topic. I am also concerned about storage.

Isprolonged storage of a plane withrubberbands holding the wing on bad?

With giant scale, can the weight of the wing deform the wing if stored horizontally for say 10 years?
I also do high powered rockets, so I know they should be stored vertically.

Anyhow, forget about the ten years one degree stuff. What is the best way to store planes if space is not an issue.

Respectfully, Salinas Hawk

Salinas - my wife lives in CA now with you. So that solved that problem.

This is where I usually store my planes but I am doing some work on it. Anyhow this is Michigan and I didn't want them to get too cold and lonely, or is it just me? -BW

Delman,

I like your "modular" design. One rack per plane! Then you can grab a unit take it down and everything for your plane, wings and fuse are all together. Way cool! [sm=thumbup.gif]

Thanks.

As it is set up, one car and 2 bicycles sit under my planes.

I just decided to consolidate mine to wall racks, the pricy part is the oak dowels, but the holes are drilled evey 4", if I had to make another pair, I would have drilled the holes every 2" or so. Just 2x4's with the holes drilled every 4" about 1 &3/4" deep at a slight angle, about 10 degrees. cut all the dowels 12" long and plug them in to the rack. They are screwed to the wall and the floor joists above as well.

Tiny eye bolt in a hardened hole on the back of the fuse, cup hook in the ceiling, twine and a paperclip, hold mine on the ceiling, ..and I do have one in the kitchen!....Rog

I've got the darned things everywhere! One spare bedroom is full, and a building out back is full, too. I keep the ones that I fly the most in the building out back. The most convenient way I have found is to use the wall rack. Got mine at the local hardware. The ones in the house are hung with jumbo zip ties, hanging from hooks on the ceiling. The wife puts up with it, but she ain't happy:D

Scott,
What model of Cessna Skymaster is that on your safe??

Ken

RE: looking for ways to store my planes

That's the KMP Skymaster. Got a Magnum 160 twin up front, and a Saito 130 twin in back. When I bought it, (used) it had a Saito 100 up front with a Saito 82 in back, and several POUNDS of lead weight up front to make it balance. I figured that if it needed that much weight up front, it might as well be engine weight;) It flies great, and I doubt that I'll have to worry much about an engine out:D

Huh.
When I complained about hubby's amateur radio aerial co-axes trailing through the loft hatch then through the bedroom door, he took a tank cutter to the ceiling in the bedroomand cut through a roof joist. He seemed quite puzzled as to why I didn't want a 2 metre set on the bedside table.
