Pico Sticks are 3 channel, throttle, rudder and elevator. A pistol grip radio is for cars so you will need to get a radio for planes. I wouldn't go less than this.

This is a good starter plane and if you follow the suggestions, they will tell you what ESC, servos, batteries, etc you will need. And since you run cars, I assume you allready have a charger.

And yes, they will be hard to fly for a new guy. I'm a big beliver in learning with a sim first.

Well its a 3 channel and a pistol grip is a ground/car radio and your more likely to run into interference from another radio than an airplane radio....it is throttle/rudder/elevator....but the GWS stick is a good park flyer to learn on...Rog

Something needs to be done about Banana Hobbies.
Maybe all of us togethercan do something.
They are a bunch of crooks who continue to get away with ripping off honest people and lying.
Taking our money, shipping nothing (or shipping damaged goods) and refusing to answer emails and phone calls.
It has been going on for years with no one willing to take these people to task.
Anyone here want to join me indoing something about it?

Start here:

This plane comes with everything you need to get in the air, and it's easy enough to fly that my 8 yr old son is learning to fly it too!

It's a great plane, and I still love to fly it. I bring it to the field almost every time I go!

You have gotten many good replies. A car radio is not any good for at least 2 reasons. A very important one is it's probably on 75 mgh. not suitable for air which is on 72 mgh. Further you will learn all wrong things with that type tx.

Skip the toy planes and go for the 4 channel trainers. They are so much more capable for handling the wind and then later doing maneuvers. There are plenty of electric versions out there, but glow power is cheaper and will let you go to a bigger airplane that will fly better.

I was discouraged not too - but I did.

This is my first plane and my first flight. but before - a lot of simulator time.

RE: A good starter plane?

Go get a Sig Kadet EP.

It has proper 4 channel control, is easy to fly, and is balsa construction, so it looks great!
I have flown one, and think it is great - it has all the slow, stable flight characteristics of the glow Kadet Senior, but is much smaller and affordable.

Don't buy any 2 channel aircraft - they are toys, and will last 2 flights. Also, go and buy a proper aircraft radio. It will give much more value over time, and is much easier to use then a car radio.

Have fun, and be safe!

I'll second dignlivn's idea..........definitely the GP Electrostik. Flys just like a stik ought to and it will do anything.
