Okay, I've been out of the pattern for about 15, or so years and a lot has changed in the RC plane world. So with that in mind what do you all recommend; the Futaba 6EX w/2.4GHz FASST, or the Futaba 7C 2.4 FASST, or the Spektrum DX7?

Wellll, it's another Chevy and Ford question. Personally, I'm partial to the JR/Spektrum line. I'm not saying JR/Spektrum is better than Futaba but a lot of the guys in my club like them because they seem easier to program. Hope this helps.

I would recommend checking out this deal for Airtronics 10 channel 2.4 ghz system. Like you I was only looking at a few familiar brands.......RCKen brought this to my attention and the sale price they have for it is fantastic! I think I saw this at Tower for $519!!

I didnt read Minn's post, but I'd say find out what the others at the field are using (partial to futaba myself) and go that way so they can help you with programing...Rog

I'm a recovering DX-7 owner. Started out with Futaba 72MHz radios but jumped to Spektrum when 2.4GHz came out. Now I am back to Futaba after getting two bad Spektrum receivers in a row out of the box. I switched to the Futaba 8FG. I like the Futaba receiver installation much better, the binding/linking progress is a lot simpler and the programming seems more intuitive to me.

I'm not saying the Spektrum was bad necessarily. It never caused me any serious trouble but I just like the Futaba better. If you choose Spektrum/JR you'll likely do very well with them.

Airtronics and Hitec have 2.4 radios as well that people really seem to like.

I'm not familiar with Spektrum/JR equipment, but by far the hardest part of linking a Futaba system is finding the switch on the receiver. That being the hardest part makes this system pretty user friendly.

I myself am partial to JR (spectrum) and have not had a single problem or glitch in 2 years of use. However, I would also check the Airtronics system mentioned as well as get info from those flying in your club/field. They will no doubt be helpful.
