O.S engine help please
 

Well my girlfiends kid was playing with my play and fliping theprop both ways and someone told me that it would not break the engine but I cant get it to fire up I tried pulling the glow plug and checking for over choke, my glow plug is working fine i took the muffler off its a glowing I check the fuel lines and made sure i had the right fuel to start it i have the blade at 3 o'clock and the chicken stick underneath it and flipin it up to12 oclock and nothing any advice or should i run it to a locl hobby shop to check it out and the engine was new in the box mabye a year old still in plastic. thank you engine is an o s 10 max.

The kids off the hook. No way could flipping the prop backwards cause problems.

Now why won't it start. If, the glow plug is glowing, and the fuel is sorta OK, it should fire up. Seeing as it has sat a while, do this. Remove the high speed needle and with some fuel in the tank, pull the pressure line from the muffler and gently blow into it. Fuel should flow out the hole where the needle valve goes. OKsofar? I not, you may have the vent and clunk lines switched. The clunk may be gummed up, there may be a broken line to or in the tank. Anyway, you have a fuel supply problem that needs fixing.

If you got fuel out of the hole, now replace the needle and make the manual' adjustment for the starting point.. Blow in the line again and see if some fuel builds in the carb. OK, then it is going to start. Watch that you don't flood it , remove the glow plug and chank the engine over a few times to blow out any buildup.Then replace the plug and give it another start. Truthfully, get an electric starter and put the chicken stick away until you have the engine running really well and broke in. Not sense driving yourself nuts trying to start a balky engine when a couple seconds on the electric will get it running.

Now back to the fuel. While it should fire even if the fuel isn't all tha great, that doesn't mean that it is going to run well with bad fuel, it won't. If you think the fuel may be bad, borrow a tank of know good fuel from a buddy and see how it goes.

Bottom line, if you get fuel to the carb, and your glow plug is lighting, the engine will try to run.

Do as Campgems suggested and check your fuel flow and that it's getting into the cylinder. If you still can't get it to fire change the glow plug. It's possible to have plug that will glow bright orange but still be bad. The coil in a glow plug is coated with platinum which causes a catalytic reaction that causes the fuel to burn. If that coating is missing the plug will still glow, but it won't fire a lick. Try changing it out with another new plug. Oh, and yes you can have a new plug out of the package bad like this. It doesn't happen often, but it can happen.

 That you both very much for taking the time to answer I have bought new fuel but ill have to wait till tommarrow to get a new glow plug im going to try as you two suggested and I just want to get it running cause my griflends kid is all worked up and upset, me im cool i thought it was neat he like planes he donst like anything hahah! if i get or when i get it running ill let you know good luck on your hobbys guys!!!

Ken, one of the guys I fly with used to be "the support guy" for Norvel. He told me that they had an issue with bad running enignes and it turned out to be the little filler bulbs used to fill the small tanks, some of them was desolving in the fuel and coating the glow plug. Ithought I would mention this as the engine in question is a 10 size and the fuel bulb may come into play.

Ok I tryed everything you said I guess it has to be the glow plug or a bad engine ,the glow plug was in the box the engine came with both were new in plastic but they did sit for a year so ill try a new plug ,if that does work ill just let my hobby shop look at it they said it was 17 bucks for a look see (lol) jezz the stuff was given to me so all i payed for was the fuel,glow plug lighter and gas tank snd a new 15 (smallest one they have was only 60.00 lol thankjs again ! Keep the old glow plugs in case that isn't the problem. You will know if you get it running and then put one of the old plugs back in to see how it goes. It it won't start, it is a bad plug, then throw it away. If it does, you now have a spare.

By the way, unless the compession is way low, the engine is OK. There isn't anything that can go wrong with the engine other than fuel supply, fuel mix and glow plug. That's it. It's one of those three.

Ditto.

There may be something very obvious that we are missing that someone who is right there will spot. It's hard to believe that the engine is "bad". That's one of the best engines around.

well Im just waiting for the hobby store to open hahah it drivening me nuts ,I have done everything but rebuild the dam thing, I took the needle vale off and blew in the fuel nip to see if it was clogged and seems to be fine Im useing new fuel, a new tank ,new fuel lines ,the compressions seems fine( tight around the 12 oclockand then loosens about 10-11)my glow plug heater is working fully charged i can see the orange glow with the muffler off , the only thing I can think of 1 glow plug iner coating as said above is not prpperly working ,and 2 mabye the compression isnt enough so im going to take it with me to the shop but a new plug try to start it in the parking lot if that fails just let the shop look at it right now the cheapis starter is 48 bucks and I could get a lil bigger engine from here the classified or ebay for that matter again thank you all for helping this is a great site with a wealth of freindly people if i ever when the lottery i buy you all the engings of your dreams !!! If the voltage is low on your glow driver, it could still make a plug visibly glow...however...under compression (while starting/running) the glow will fail.

Remove the glow plug, hold it carefully as not to burn yourself (pliers), attach your glow driver. If you can make the glow fade out with a exhale of breath, then that could be the problem.
