Escapade
 

My Escapade just arrived about 15 minutes ago. I pulled it out and I am amazed at how assembled it is. I was reading somewhere else, that other Escapade owners have had trouble with the control surfaces not being assmbled very well and detatching in flight, specifically the elevator. So what can I do about this with a pre-assembled plane? What other areas of the Escapade need attention?

Apply thin CA to all the hinges on the plane to ensure they are well adhered to the control surfaces. Also, you can use strips of Monokote to seal the gaps in the control surfaces. This will help hold them in place and keep them from detaching from the plane.

To be honest with you I got mine in mid august. and most of the initial troubles have been remedied. In my box there was the tech bulletin about the elevator, If you didnt have a tech bulletin in it I assume they have addressed the problem because Great Planes is pretty ontop of that. On my escapade I just followed the build instructions (including the tech bulletin for putting CA in the elevator joiner) and it flys like a dream. I have put my escapade through its fair share of high speed and high g maneuvers and had no problems with flutter or other problems found in the initial batches of escapades (jan of last year I think) Only thing to be careful of is the canopy. you really have to make sure its on there right. Mine has never come off but i double check its secure before each take off, i might throw a set screw on for back up.

You also need to keep the speed up while on landing approach. They do not like going slow. Good Luck, Dave

I ordered my Escapade this wednesday and it would be shipped out on Friday and prolly arrive next friday. It's also ARF version and I ordered the engine JBA .56 and I'm sure it would make this baby fly high with a prop of 11x7. I still yet to get my maiden of P51 Mustang and hopefully this sunday I'm gonna do it. Is it possible to post the snaps of Escapade ARF. So this is a fast landing plane?

It lands pretty fast unless you got a good wind to fly into and slow down, but i dont think its very hard to land. Also that engine will haul i have a Supertigre 51 on mine and it screams.

You do need to keep the landing speed up, even if you have the wind. They will drop a wing real quick if they are going to slow. There are 3 of them at our field and they all do the same thing when slowed down to much. They are a real good flying sport plane and have no other issue's and if you fly it to the runway for landing, they have no issue's at all. Good Luck, Dave

the one ive flown (dont own one) will slow down quite a bit with a 11x5 prop, not as slow as some planes but its definately down their, the stall speed and landing speed are relitivly far appart so i wouldnt worry about it to much. if you have a high pitched/low diameter (aka 10x7) prop though it wont slow down

I'm gonna get my ARF next Friday and JBA .56 engine. It would be a while until it gets ready and I'd fly as it's gonna be my second plane and I would use 11X7 Prop on it.

Nice choice of plane as a second... What's your first plane?

The plane scoots! It's lightweight and is pulled just fine by a .46 size engine.
