Covering ???
I stripped the ole trainer last night. Hangar nine Easy2. Going to re-cover it and give it to my father inlaw. I thinking I can re-cover it without removing the control surfaces. Am I correct in my thinking? Just figure if I take my time and be very patient I can do it. What do "ya'll" think?

RE: Covering ???
Hey Bill, Can Do ! Just use small stips of covering around where the Fin and Stab meet. Are you using moneykote ? Bob |
RE: Covering ???
I stripped and recovered my old PT60 without removing the control surfaces. I stripped off monokote and replaced it with koverall fabric and painted it. It wasnt the prettiest thing at the field but it flies just fine. I did it as an experiment to see how to work with koverall. I decided I liked it enough to use it on my next build.

RE: Covering ???
It's a pain, but it can be done. If you can, don't remove the covering from the hinge area and that will make things a little easier

RE: Covering ???
BillD,
The way I accomplished this was to cut strips about 1" wide. I then cut them to length to fit between the hinges. Then I attached them to the plane with 1/2" on each side. Cover up to the control surface and overlap the strips previously attached. It takes time and isn't that hard. Good Luck, KW_Counter Minn, True story or fantasy? KW |

Nope...
4 years Navy 6 years Air Force Never once cared to be a Marine - But all the power to you, we all have a job to do. Besides, if we were all alike, you'd have no boats to take you to the battle :D |

RE: Covering ???
Bill and Minn The best chow I had while I was in was in Iceland. Yes it was a Navy base, we laid over there because our C130 had a Flat, on landing on the Ice coming back from Norway. There where civilans serving in the mess hall and the man asked "How do you want your Eggs". Marines don't ever here that :D Bob |
RE: Covering ???
I gained 25 pds eating in my AF chow hall over the first 8 weeks active. Had to get new fatigues.

RE: Covering ???
Since this forum is covering related, I don't mean to impose on this with a question of my own.
I am going to convert my Nextstar into a tail dragger and such. I have no covering experience, which would be the most "forgiving" or so to say covering to work with. I did see Minnflyer's section on how to coat and downloaded the videos. Now I am undecided on the type of covering material. Thanks! |
RE: Covering ???
IMHO, any of the fabrics such as Solartex, Colortex, etc. is far easier to use than any of the films. If you do not mind using your own adhesive, then Ceconite also works very well but Ceconite will also require paint or dope to finish. The fabrics are also much more durable than the films as well as stronger.

RE: Covering ???
One thing the Coast Guard isn't noted for is chow. And, I know from experience. [:'(] ;) But, my first four were in the Navy, Nuke Subs. Now, there's some chow!!!
