New Here...Have Questions

Good Day All,

New to the forums and I have some questions about EDF Jets...I did have someexpierience in flying rc planes about 10 years agoand I am interested in trying something new..Ihavenarrowed my choice downto the F-15 from nitorplanes.com (not too sure about their service) or possibly one from Hobby Lobby. My questions are as follows...

A.For starting out, is theRTF kit worth the price ($169.95: Plane, Servos, Battery/Charger and Radio) or should I purchase just the plane and add my own radio?
B.Is the RTF kit radio any good?
C.IfI buy just the plane, what would you recommend for a radio and servos?
D. Any other company's out their offering Foam EDF's?Bannanhobby was another I found, but have read many poor reviews

Thanks for your time..
Joe

RE: New Here...Have Questions

GotZoom: If you havn't flown in ten years or so, my advise is to get a nitro powered aircraft trainer before flying any Jets.
The trainers will give you a feel for the sticks again, then when confident, proceed to jets. It will save you money in the long term.

If you want to go EDF, start with a electric trainer, or intermediate plane. Since you want to fly electrics, there's really no sense in investing in glow equipment, but don't just jump right into a jet.

Check out this one:

http://ecsvr.com/wgm/ShopDisplayproducts.asp?Search=Yes

$124 includs all servos, and motor - and they are pre-installed

All you need is a transmitter, receiver, ESC and battery

And it's an excellent flyer

What do you all think of the Super Cub? I have read many great reviews and it sounds like it is pretty forgiving. As I mentioned before it has been many years since I have flown anything..Thanks Again!

I taught myself to fly with the SuperCub, and so did another guy at my field. I've got nothing but good things to say about the SuperCub....except that it was the beginning of this addiction....uhh, I mean hobby...:D

Well I took the plunge and purchased the Super Cub today...I must say I am so far very pleased in my purchase. I am sure Iwill have many more questionswith my revitalized hobby and I will do my best to search the forums for the answers as the days go on...

Regarding the storage of lipo batteries...I have read the proper procedures for long time storage, Zip Lock baggie in a padded aluminum or steel container seems to be popular, but are these steps also adequate for "Between Flights" storage?

Thanks,
Joe

Maiden Flight was today and I am happy to report it was a success...Wow I forgot how much fun it was to fly these things...Thanks for suggesting the Super Cub, it was a very stable, easy to fly and a great way for me to get back into the swing of things. I can't wait for the next nice day to head back out.

:D

Wow 8 days from concept to flight. I can't do anything in 8 days. I thought I would mention that EDF's have a lot less control at low speed without the airflow from the prop. Now all you need is a few extra batteries and a fast charger and you can fly all day.-BW
