What Changed?

A 40 size plane no longer requires a 40 engine. Now you need 50.
A 60 is no longer a large plane.
A 6 Ch. radio is no longer Big.
No one enjoys building the first plane.
And the people that never flew, Know much more than I.

RE: What Changed?

I wait like other people all week until Sunday comes, last Sunday we had wind gusts warning, no matter where I go to fly, Houston or Magnolia, it's the same. Brand new club is being built there, just started from the scratch not a soul was there to fly but me, so I did not take my chances to fly in wind gusts and lose my plane. I did find an adder crossing the road infact dirt road and I was about to run him over but spotted him and let him go across:D

This Sunday seems to be pretty good, so hopefully I'd fly good. :D

RE: What Changed?

The good thing about this time is that:

1) You are free to build, enjoy and fly a 40 size plane that uses a 40 engine and control it with a 6 Ch. radio (because what other people think about you is none of your businesses).

2) You are free to ignore or learn from those people that never flew, but know much more than you.

3) You can use a simulator and virtually fly a 60 size plane with a 1.20 engine.

:)

RE: What Changed?

I'm enjoying my Escapade ARF, 90% complete:D waiting on Magnum .46XL engine, had worse experience with knox hobbies on JBA's .56 size engine, guy returned my money never sent me the engine after keeping quiet for long time. Plus economy was not that bad as now, we are still surviving and enjoying our hobby, despite I just last Monday got laid off.

Sorry to learn of your lay-off.
I wish you the best luck finding another job.

I put 32's in 40 size planes.
My 60 size Uproar is big, because I can't fly it in the back yard.
I never did use channels 5 and 6 on my 3 6 channel TX's. The only reason I went with an RDS8000 was that the others were Fm.
I built 2 of my first three planes from kits, the other I scratch built.
I have been building model airplanes since about 1976, flying RC for a little over 3 years...and I still don't know crap.-BW

I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience with Knox Hobbies, armody.

I've mentioned in other threads that you can buy JBA engines through http://www.kangkeusa.com as well as http://www.bj-model-engines.com/home.html

In any event, you'll love your Magnum XLS .46A. It's a terrific 2-stroke. Hopefully you'll start a project at another time that will give you an excuse to try a JBA engine in the future.

bigedmustafa,

Thank you very much and your advice was much more appreciated, but I got your message long before I ordered my engine. It all started from knox hobbies website as I saw it it says free shipping but there is some *** asterisks/ star signs there and you are charged shipping. I sent an e-mail to the guy and told him it's a rip off, I guess he took it serious and I sent that guy Dewayne Solomon an apology e-mail, then I ordered my engine, 8 days I didn't hear anything from him I sent him several emails, then he came up with an excuse of family illness, then he came up with another excuse that USPS lost my package, as I sent him a gruffy email as I never got any info from him, no tracking # nothing like that person was evaporated in the air, no news of him, no info, no way I could get hold of him, no phone nothing. He replied back to me that I don't take threats, I told him threatening is not my strategy, I wanted to make my point clear regarding raising a disput at paypal. He told me your money would be refunded completely and I sent you an engine so better send it back to me as soon as you get it. I did not get my engine so far, infact he never sent it to me, as he got even with me for saying them rip off. Infact I have not gotten anything from him. He did write a best wishing mail of my job as I mentioned it to him last week as I lost it last week.

Well, I bought my Magnum from tower hobbies and expected to be here on Wednesday. I gotta break in and I'm expecting my Hitec Supreme 8 Channel Rx which I bought it ebay brand new for $35 with shipping. It's info is not there, and I hope it would be shipped tomorrow to me and I bought the Xtal for 72.810 channel 51 as well. My Escapade would be finished and I would have the engine break-in, then of course maiden flight:D I would use 10X6 prop for break-in and prolly run 4 tanks on it. I'm using 10% Nitro and I'd continue to use it.

Sorry I did not mean to steal the thread:) But I know good times are coming ahead for us financiallyl and economically.

Happy Flying.

Sorry bigedmustafa, I got your message to buy JBA engine long after I ordered it, so nothing could have been done as I already ordered the engine and paid for the consequences.

When did it become normal for people to expect thier airplanes to hover and helicopters to loop, roll, and fly inverted. I also remember a time when the club would hold a fun fly contest and you could actually compete with what you had. I guess I'm dating myself though. I only own one ARF which was given to me, and it has been modified, recovered with full lights, video and still cameras added. Oh it also is a .40 size with a .45 (I need the extra power for all the extra weight.) Other than a glider it is also the biggest plane I have flying.

Interesting. I have yet to see a full scale pilot hover, although I like the challenge of attempting to do it. It's easier than torque rolling (for me anyways). Seems like club membership has fallen off in our neck of the woods. on the other hand, if you look at the Classified ads here, there are alot more 3d planes up for sale, than anything else. I wonder why that is? I like flying scale. Heck, I'm as happy as a "pig in slop" if I can just take off, circle and land safely:D

I like to watch great pilots hover but when I'm fling a warbird or jet and they are right over the runway it is distracting to say the least, I say if you fly 3d you really don't need much of a runway. Maybe I'm just old school huh..............

I'm not Armody, but I am from Texas: :) An "adder" (not real name) is a kind of small harmless snake, IIRC mostly black like a true cottonmouth moccasin without the white mouth. When agitated, he thinks he is a cobra, puffs up and acts mean.
Someone should have the real name. My book of Texas Snakes has no "adder" and I can't really find one that looks like the little fellow that used to be so plentiful out in the East Texas "Big Thicket" country where I grew up.

I have and fly 3D planes not because I am a hotshot, it is because they fly so easy in no wind and low rates. I built a scale warbird last year and still haven't flown it, I am scared because it is extremely heavy.

3d planes are great and fun to fly. They do fly slow very nicely. I'm not saying I don't like, they are a blast, and I do like the way you can glide right in for a landing and hte quick takoffs, and you can just fly them around like a sport plane too. I basically learned to fly on a Typhoon 2 3D, hands down, the most fun to fly plane I have owned thus far.
