what motor do you recomend
Hello, I am a begenner. I have a Hobbico Avistar, ready for a motor. It recomends one of three motor's 1) o.s. .46 LA 2) o.s. 40 FX 3) supertigre GS-40
I would like something with more power than just some simple trainner. I would like to have a little more power when I felt I needed it. any recomendations on which one I should use, or any recomendations on any other motor? |

Of those three, I like the OS 46LA, but it won't give you a surplus of power. It is a good, reliable engine and is economical to run. it does cost more than a lot of engines that are much more powerful.
If you go with a Super Tigre, the ST-45 is actually lighter than the ST-40, and believe it or not, the ST-51 is lighter than both of them. "Motors" run on electricity "Engines" run on liquid fuel I know it's only semantics, and the words ARE interchangable, but generally those are the perferred usages of the words - at least in this sport they are :D |

Sorry Spidr, my post was meant to be informative, not insulting.
Like mclina said, of those choices, I too would pick the 46LA. However if you really want that extra power - for now, or for down the road - look at the OS 46AX. That's the top of the line in that size. If you want to keep costs down, try the Thunder Tiger 46Pro or the Evolution 46 |

The Thunder Tiger GP-42 is ideal for most .40-size trainers. It's lightweight, it's powerful, it's very easy to tune, and it's very reliable. It also comes with a 3-year warranty. It also happens to be readily available.
It's less expensive than the O.S. Max .46 LA and the Super Tigre GS-40. The Super Tigre GS-40 is also backordered until July or so. The O.S. Max .40 FX is no longer in production. http://www.rchermoso.es/84-87-large/...tiger-gp42.jpg I think the O.S. Max .46 LA is an excellent match for the Avistar 40 ARF. I'd just rather have a TT GP-42 and $20 than an O.S. Max .46 LA. mclina's suggestion of the Magnum XLS .46A is also a very good one. They're on sale for $59.99 right now ($20 off) and are also good, strong running, reliable engines. |

Personally, I would go with the OS 46 ax. have had 3 and love them. very reliable, easy to tune, and parts are easy to get. I found an extra 1 here on the shopping area and instead of paying the $130.00 I picked it up for $80.00. I personally dont care if it is new, just as long as it has been taken care of and broken in properly. With that pricetag, it cannot be beaten. The power the AX generates over the LA is impressive. Any of the engines that have been mentioned here will have no problem pulling the trainer and once you have learned to fly with that, you can transfer the engine to a different model and know that the engine is reliable and be more comfortable due to the confidence.

id go with the magnum .46 much more power than the .46 la and uses about the same amount of fuel

I will say the Thunder Tiger Pro .46 is the best option in my opinion. You will very rarely hear an ill word spoken of the TT Pro .46. It is such a nice little engine to live with. I have had a few over the years and they last forever and are very easy to tune. The TT GP 42 is also another good option. I have had one of those as well and they are a great bargain. THe only downside to TT motors is parts availability. I have had great luck with www.thundetiger4u.com though.

I had one with a Super Tiger 45. It had tons of power and pulled the plane straight up. The engine takes a bit of breaking in on the ground...but was very powerful.

If you decide on a Super Tigre GS-45 engine (also a good choice), remember to throw away the exhaust gasket that comes with the muffler and buy extra nuts so you can double nut the bolts on the exhaust manifold as well as using thread lock on them. I like my Super Tigre engines, too. It can be a challenge to keep the exhaust system bolted on, however, if you don't follow the above recommendations. My order of recommendation: 1) TT GP-42 2) Magnum XLS .46A 3) O.S. Max .46 LA 4) Thunder Tiger Pro .40 or Pro .46 5) Super Tigre GS-45 If spending $139.99 on an O.S. Max .46 AX sounds like a good idea to you, you should really treat yourself and visit http://www.enya-engine.com and order an Enya SS40BB TN instead. It'll cost you about $157.70 at today's exchange rate, but it will be the best $18 upgrade you ever bought. Your kids' grandkids will be able to fly the Enya. Folks who think that O.S. First of all a motor would be electric. An engine would be gas, nitro or diesel. My suggestion would be go with a Super Tigre 40. Ususlly you can buy almost 2 for the same $$ as one OS. As a beginner you won't notice any difference.

My first Avistar had the TT Gp 42 and I thought it had plenty of power. I flew it on windy days that others wouldn't fly and it did well. I'm a fan of the TT Gp 42. I'd buy more of them, but you can get a Magnum 46 for less. Also a good engine. What ever you put in the Avistar you are going to have to put the battery as far aft as possible to get the CG correct.
