Lesson Learned!
 

I was adding a new airplane(Ultra Mini Stik) on my DX7 to a model memory slot that had never been used or flown before. In trying to get the airplane programmed to the radio I couldn't get the newly purchased analog servos to operate correctly they had limited travel to one side about half movement. I also could not get the ESC to operate correctly to get the motor to run (the windings would not play their tune) it just jumped a bit. Strange!!! Mind you that this was a never used or flown airplane memory slot.

After repeated calls to the company that had sold me the components thinking something was wrong with what I had purchased. After some quick test checks their tech support guru who didn't understand what was going on either suggested to send everything back for examination. Before doing so I decided to test one of the servos using an old Futaba analog radio............. the servo worked properly. HMMMMMMMMM! Why is that??? Doing a little more investigation switched the new ESC with another ESC I knew was working but couldn't get the new motor to run with that setup either. Tried the new ESC with another working motor to no success as well HMMMMMMMMMMM ????????????

Something that the tech guru had said but didn't directly ask me to do now jumped out at me. Hit the model reset function to clear the spot!!!! Even though the slot had never been used or flown and there weren't any programming entries in the menus for that slot thought why not give it a try.

WHAMMO problem solved things came alive! Don't know why, but there must of been something in the software causing the problem. The servos now worked properly, the motor fired up with the new ESC. Life is good and I didn't wrongly return merchandise that didn't have issues caused by another problem.

MY now "new procedure" when adding an airplane to a computer radio will be to always purge the model memory slot even if it has not been used before attempting programming.

Lesson learned!

Good lesson.
Additionally, when reusing a slot also RESET it before programming it.
I didn't and didn't realize everything wasn't cleared.
Result - 30 second flight and a lawn dart.
As my Daddy used to say "Learn from others mistakes - it's cheaper."

The reason its always a must to go through the model reset senario with any brand Tx when adding a model even when its a brand new Tx and there has never been any of the slots used.

Is with a new system the fellows will often actually get mixs or other programing applied to random slots by accident when first learning the tx. I often find this problem when the fellows bring me their new trannys. A surprising number of the flyers never bother to learn the reset senario for even years and they of course run into this on occassion.
