3rd plane rough field.
I have been to flying my Falcon 56 ARF and my Nexstar with some confidence. I have spent some time trying to decide what my next plane should be. The big variable is not my skill level but issues about where I land.
My wife and I own farmland in ontario Can. I have to land on beanfields and cornfields. Its rough on landing gear. I broke the landing gear off the nexstar and the falcon pretty quickly. I removed all landing gear and I am able to land with minimal or no damage to the planes. Can any one recommend a second or third plane that can handle the rough terrain I am landing in? I am leaning towards the four star .40 by SIG. I have about 3 weeks till the corn is too high. Thanks for any input. Steve |
RE: 3rd plane rough field.
:):):) Sorry for laughing but at one of my clubs we have lost a lot of planes in the corn!! Fodder grass too!! Whats really fun is when the harvester drivers bring in planes that have been sucked up through the machines. I was surprised at how well the parts survive, engines and servos. Planes, not som much!! I can't think of any plane I have ever built that would be good for farm field landings. I did fly from a rough mountain field, tall weeds and gopher holes. I usually flew fun fly type of planes there, the Up-Roar or Fun-51 type.I made my own LG, I bent and soldered braces onto wire landing gear, worked pretty good but I still ended up with a lot of holes in my covering from stick ups.

RE: 3rd plane rough field.
I had a simular problem. So, I took a 60x800' piece out of alfalfa production so I can feed my obsession. Discd, dragged and then seeded with pasture grass. If I keep it mowed short its just fine.
My neighbors think I'm nuts! Heck, whats loosing a few tons of hay... |

It'd be cheaper to just join a club, but to each his own.

RE: 3rd plane rough field.
either sacrifice a few rows of corn and make a nice runway or you could use 4" or bigger tires
