How does Elevon Work?
Hi all!!
May i know how does Elevon work? the elevator function are same as tail plane right ? How about the aileron movement, i mean when we turn left (plane direction point to us) right aileron should down or up? |
How does Elevon Work?
elevons is elevator and aileron in one. When you have full left aileron the left aileron goes up and the right goes down when the model is facing away from you. If you have elevons and you put in full left and full up elevator the right aileron returns to neutral. Hope that helps

You mean the right aileron return to neutral which way we look from? From behind the plane or infront of the plane? thank for your help.

How does Elevon Work?
Jason,
Elevons are ONLY used for flying wings (like Zagis), which do not have "tails". Without a tail, using the ailerons as both elevator and ailerons is required. It requires either a computer radio for mixing, a special electronic mixer (about $20), or you need to set up a sliding servo tray and make mechanical mixing. When you turn right, the left aileron goes down, right aileron goes up. When you give up elevator, both ailerons go up. (And vice versa.) Oh, always when behind the plane. It works because when turning, both ailerons still have enough throw to also be used as elevators. Hope this helped. Dennis- |

Just a note, to emphasize...
Always call the controls as if you were sitting inside the model. (Same with left/right on a car... it's based on sitting inside.) Just to keep you from making any costly mistakes in the future :) |
