How do connect split elevators?
I have a new plane with split elevators and i need o figure out how to make them work as "one". I hward of the tiny box that takes to control rods and makes them one but i was thinking of just using 2 servos instead. Any other methods or suggestions?

RE: How do connect split elevators?
The two servos is the best way. There are some other things to consider though. 1st, with two servos in the tail your CG will be effected. If this is a larger plane it may not be a big deal. The extra weight can be made up for easily in the nose. If it is a smaller plane the extra weight can be a bear. If it causes you to add lead to the nose then it's not worth it. 2nd, how are you going to drive these servos? If your radio does not have a way to mix them, then you are going to need a reverse Y harness. These reverse Y harness are hit or miss in reliability from my experience.
If you want to drive them from one servo, it's not a big deal to make a split push rod. Dave Brown Products makes a nice fiberglass one. It's also easy to make one with a dowel rod and some push rods. A final consideration may be the plane. If this is a sport type plane, the split push rod is easy to do. If it is a 3D or fully aerobatic plane. The two servo set up will give you more throw, and be stronger. david |

Any other methods or suggestions? you can make a pushrod with a Y split mid fuse a little soldering skill is required but its not hard. use dual servos, and a servo reversing Y harness and mechanicly adjust the servos so the 2 halfs are matched. or use a match box the Futaba version is called a MSA-10, you can adjust the servos independently I have one it works good. |
