It flew and I did too !

Finally got with my instructor (bad weather grr) and got out to the field today with my Avistar.

He looked it over pretty good, we fueld it up, and he took off - couple clicks of trim and then he looped it, did some rolls, tried out some stalls etc..

Then landed and put me on the buddy box, it was my first flight on my avistar but my 2nd on the buddy box overall.

Did the pattern for a while, then we did glides, power climbs and some stalls.

Landed, refueled and he took off and I took over again doing some pattern work - flying down the runway then he goes "Bring it low and slow down the runway and if it feels good just land it".

Well it felt good and I landed it, first on the main wheels then the nose wheel down it looked pretty damn good from my point of view for my first landing on my second flight.

He took it up again and we did a little more work and then he said "land it again" well this time wasn't as pretty. It was perfect till about 2 feet from the ground when I had to pick up one wing and I wasn't fast enough to pick up one wing and flare at the same time and it bounced like a foot in the air and then landed, but the prop didn't break at least.

What a blast - going back out in morning before the crowd gathers for some more work.

Great job. Sounded like a perfect landing on the first try! You don't see that very often. Congrats!

Heck; anytime I don't break the prop I call it a good landing too. :)

Practice flying down the runway, lower and lower. You don't have to touch down, that part will be easy if you can get in position.

Hehe - sounds just like my first flight; a perfect three-point landing. Of course, the second landing wasn't quite as elegant... the control arm attached to the nose-wheel came loose and the nose-wheel turned 90 degrees to the direction of travel of the plane just before it touched down. The plane stopped like someone had thrown an anchor out! Still, no damage done :p

I've ground a flat-spot on the nose-wheel assembly now, so hopefully that won't be happening again

That also happened to me, second fly a 3 point perfect landing, after that I couldn't nail a good landing after a while. I think that way make us get our foot on the ground, where they belong and not with the plane. Practice and practice and more practice and the occasional crash of course.

There're only two types of rc pilots those who has crashed already and those who will crash.

I felt pretty good about it even if it did bounce a good deal - then the instructor said "Looked more like an *average* landing around here on that one anyway". Heh.

Going out again in the morning before the experts err I mean the crowd shows up :)

They say you learn from your mistakes. I should be getting smarter every day! :)

Dennis-

i solo'd my duraplane after about 1 hour on the buddy box. once you solo it is such a confidence builder.

i started flying mine again after about 5 weeks of not flying, and only 2 solos, and i am getting really good, i am actually gonna teach my gF to fly tomorrow.
