what kind of engine should i be using
I am new to this hobbie and have a question about the engine I have on my trainer. I've been told it's a telemaster and has a 6' wing span. Right now it has an os 46LA with a 10*6 prop. I really like the way it flys and the people that are training me say it flys nice but it's under powered. I was just wanting to get some other opinions on this set up. I trust the people training and will probibly invest in something bigger when I learn to fly better.

I agree with raptor5900, you can't go wrong with either of these engines.

I have flown this plane and for learning, you are fine, but when you start flying by yourself, it flys great with a 60. You can throttle back if you want, or open it up and climb like heck. You don't need that much power, but it is a lot of fun with that engine. A 46 will do more than you have, but not much. I wouldn't spend what it would take to upgrade to another 46 because you won't gain enough to justify it. Get yourself a used OS .61 SF that is in good condition and you will be very happy. Stay away from the rear needle valve new OS engines. They don't run very well. TT 61 would be good too. Someone just pointed out MVVS to me. Haven't flown one yet but I think there is one in my very near future.
You will really like it with a 61 in the nose. Flys great on floats that way too! Learn to slip it. It does it really well. |

It will take a wide range of engines...I've seen them fly with .40's and seem them fly with .91's...
Just concentrate on learning to fly right now. If it's a little low on power, it's good for you. You will not learn any bad habits... After you master it, then it's a good time to upgrade the engine. You might even want to try a four stroke... The TT Pro .46 is my choice for a .46... For a 4 stroke, I would recommend a Saito .72... |

i have a TT pro46, and it is an awesome engine. very powerful. with the right prop, it may just be enough of an increase to make it faster. i have a SD with a pro46, never flown it, but at idle the thing will move.
i have also seen a telemaster with a .91(i think, it was a 4 stroke, correct me if it is the wrong size) it was bigger than .90, anyway, it never went full throttle. |

Thank you guys for your input. I'll just keep it the way it is for now and get a bigger engine when I get better. Thanks again.

As a cheapo suggestion, try replacing the prop with an APC 10x5. You'll get a bit more thrust that way.
