Screwed up transmitter
I really screwed this one up. Two year layoff from flying (new granddaughter). Went to clean off transmitter (Futaba 6EXA) and neglected to note that rag had "Goof Off" on it. Screwed up display window. Is there any way to fix it?

RE: Screwed up transmitter
I think your outta luck on that. That stuff is excellent but it kills plastic. the only thing i can suggest is to see if you can remove the plastic screen from the transmitter and find some clear plastic to replace it with. with patience and some craftsmanship with a dremel, you can replace it and never know it happened.

I wonder if the new headlight restoration kits would do any good.
I think it was a Mequire's product. In the auto section next to the wax. |
RE: Screwed up transmitter
I have made a badly scratched/deformed window readable again by just painting a thick coat of clear epoxy over it, let it lay flat and cure. Not as good as original, but you could still read what whas behind the window as the epoxy filled in the voids/scratches and got rid of most of the distortion.

You might try a tiny bit of toothpaste. It can act like a light-weight rubbing compound. I'd just try it in a corner, of course. Rich

take some 1000 to 1500 grit sandpaper, get it a little wet and see if you can rub the scratches/film/whatever out. this works very well on car headlights that get that white film on them over a period of 10+ years (then buff the headlights and their good as new)

RE: Screwed up transmitter
try some novus plastic cleaner. the stuff is midly abrasive and will polish up plastic and make scratched plastic clear again. I use it all the time on my pinball machine plastics.

Itake it that you had removed the clear polythene protective film over the screen some time ago?

RE: Screwed up transmitter

Another vote for Novus plastic polish. It is what I use to clean the plastipane panels on the dodger of our sailboat. Also works on canopies of r/c models. Flitz might work, too. But first, do we have a definition of what "screwed up" means in reference to a transmitter display? Scratched? Dissolved? Blackened? Moisture behind the cover? |
