Hanger-9 p-51 pts mk II problems
I purchased a Hanger-9 P-51 PTS about 3 weeks ago and got it all assembled and i am really excited to fly it, mind you this is my first plane and have never flown before. Well my father in law and brother in law both are into RC and i brought my mustang over to my father in laws house to run it since i dont have starters, fuel pump or fuel yet. So we get it started and it starts right up but dies immediatly after kicking up the throttle, so we adjust it down and down and down and finally get to the stop and the thing is still running rich. We then spin the low needle vale past the stop and it finally starts running right, the valve is only about a 1/4 turn from fully closed.... That was my first problem after a while my father in law spins the prop and says it loose so i pull the cone off and retighten it and it felt like it didnt tighten properly and he said the same thing, we then figured we tighten it as much as we can and wait till my brother in law comes over. After my brother in law shows up we do some more tuing and get it closeso we stopped since it was getting warm and then went back to it later after my brother in law broke in the new motor for his heli and then all of the sudden my mustang wouldnt stay running without the glow starter attached, so we finish tuning the valves and got it running perfect with the glow starter on it and right before we shut it off the propeller flies off. well we try and tighten it again and it still doesnt want to tighten down right. The next day i went to Ace hardware and just picked up a locking nut for the propeller which so far after running it seems to stay tight. So, so far i have had to spend 3 hours tuning it, a propeller that wont tighten down and i have had to replace the glow plug cause it wouldnt stay running after we remove the glow starter. Then later that day my father in law said he has had problems with one of the hanger 9 servos that are installed in it.... i guess im just wondering if other people that have this PTS have had simular problems or worse and if i should consider changing out the servos and motor. i dont want to take this out for my first flight and all of the sudden have the thing take a nose dive right into the ground. I love this plane but am worried about flying it. Thanks Goran</p> |
RE: Hanger-9 p-51 pts mk II problems
Goran.. Congrats on the new plane.. sorry about your problems with it though! it happens to all of us some point (A LOT of points) in this amazing hobby! But believe me when things are going smooth you'll love it!
Umm about the plane, Engine: where did you buy it from? a big name store will replace your engine for free if you tell them what is happening with the prop shaft threads, if not then contact the engine maker.. the running problem happens from time to time when breaking in a new engine.. you'll get it dialed in! servos: Don't worry about the servos.. if all seem well then they'll be fine... if you want to get new high end servo's for safety then go ahead but hangar 9 won't include servo's that will just STOP WORKING. If you choose to send in the motor for repair or replacement I suggest going to buy a RTF Parkzone Slo-V, Supercub, or a GWS Slow Stick and get some stick time in! all great planes to start and very gentle flying... |
RE: Hanger-9 p-51 pts mk II problems
See thats the thing i didnt buy the motor seperatly it came with the plane as an RTF, as far as i have figured out its an Evolution power traininer system which i believe is a .45 2 stroke. This motor should already be broken in according to Hanger-9, all your supposed to do is pull it out of the box, assembly, fuel it up and fly it. I probably should have called hanger-9 and seen what they say but if they asked me to send it in i dont want to be out of a plane and not get to fly till god knows when they send it back.
Thanks Goran |

Goran,
Read this old thread, it may help: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_42...tm.htm#4208196 The mother of all threads about your model: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_3102050/tm.htm Don't worry much, if you are going to be connected to an instructor via a buddy box, all will be fine. Have you practiced with a simulator? |
RE: Hanger-9 p-51 pts mk II problems
yea i havea trainer i borrowed from my brother in law and have spent about 20 hrs or so on it i can land realy well on it but i jsut cant hit the runways just for the fact that when im coming in the stupid plane is only 1/4" on the screen so its just hard to judge.

RE: Hanger-9 p-51 pts mk II problems
I have the same plane have had it for a year or more now. The evolution engines for them are "run in" already like they say, but they will never run correctly with the limiters on the needles, they will ALWAYS be to rich unless you adjust the limiters or remove them.
If the threads on the crankshaft are bad, you should exchange the entire aircraft for a new one where you bought it, if it was a larger chain most of them like hobbytown usa will just exchange for you.. If you are unable to do this you should absolutely contact hanger 9 or evolution, no reason you should pay for something new that is incorrect out of the box. The servo thing, I replaced all of the servos in my mk II after the third flight, I had a bounce on the landing (stalled about a foot and a half above ground) and the rudder servo had a dead spot in its rotation, not sure what you call it other then that. From the neutral position it would not move either direction unless you manually moved it a tiny bit then it would move just fine until it was at neutral for a few seconds, replacing it solved the issue. Just because I had the extra gear on hand I replaced them all, it was not a hard bounce, and it scared me that the servo had issues that easily. If i would have not had servos I would have taken it back or sent it in. All of the bad things being said, this thing is one of my favorites and its a hit with most others that see it, and IT IS A FREAKING BLAST to fly LOL there are always things that need tinkering with, its part of the fun and you will love this thing once you got it sorted :) My two cents... |

I know this is a hard advice for you to follow, being so eager to fly your dream model, but it is an excellent advice. Try to have some experienced RC pilot take a look at the shaft and determine what the problem is, so you can make a valid and exact claim. May be returning only the engine will be acceptable. Best of luck! |

RE: Hanger-9 p-51 pts mk II problems
No doubt, it's a great plane, Had P51 first when it was released by Hangar 9, crashed due to receiver failure, Had MKII, crashed due to my stupid mistake, and I'm gonna buy me the 3rd Hangar 9's Mustang PTS MKII RTF.:D:D
Goran good luck, take care of this baby;) Mody |
RE: Hanger-9 p-51 pts mk II problems
I have the same model and I had to lean out the engine at first, but after that it ran perfect. For the prop, make sure you are using a 7/16" wrench and NOT an adjustable, as it seems like you can never get it that tight with an adjustable.
Also, if I were you, I would contact customer service for Horizon Hobby (the distributor of Hangar-9 and Evolution Engines). They have outstanding service and will be able to help you out or even replace whatever is needed. I have never had such a great experience with customer service as I did with them... Good luck with your plane...hope it all works out for you. |
