nexstar ep select rtf

I am very new to r/c planes and have never flown yet. I am looking into the Nexstar ep select rtf as a beginner/trainer plane. Any feedback will be appreciated.</p>

A great choice. takes a little bit of room in which to fly... I wish I had chosen it first, before the Super Cub. Slower, easier to control and flies in winds, too. Amazing. I did add a lipo battery and a brushless motor, though. Rich

redcasey55,

Welcome to the addiction:D

Do you have a Simulator to practice on? Have you been flying on Sim, and it's a nice plane flies really good, and is there any club in your area you gonna fly and do you know some Instructor who can buddy box on your radio with you and let you fly? Cos no one can afford to lose a plane and I wish not on anybody.

Do not fly on your own, and I'm sure you know it pretty well.

All the best to you.

Hey Mody, thanks for the reply. I am using a simulator...not a very good one , but it has to do for now. So far I am having troublewith the ailerons, trying to get used to how they operate.I live in NY and just joined a club that has a few instructors that will help me with a buddy box once I get my plane. It is inback order right now. Hoping to get it soon. I would really not want to fly this plane alone...I would hate to crash it right away.

Thanks for the advice,
Red

Well, Red, you are off to a good start.. with a good attitude about learning to fly. You are wise to wait to fly it with an instructor and a buddy box.

I started with a Tower 40 trainer and an OS 46 engine. My radio was an Airtronics RD6000. I flew it for a short time but my work travel schedule was brutal.. pretty much commuting to and from England several times a year for a couple of years. I even bought an RC trainer in England and flew with a club over there.

When the travel started to level off, I bought a NexStar Select RTF, glow powered plane and swapped out the Futaba basic radio and put in my Airtronics system (took the AFS right out of that puppy). I solo'ed with that with the aid of one of the club instructors. I actually had three other instructors working with me from time to time. It took me about three months to solo, mainly because of my schedule and the fact that I felt that I just wasn't ready to solo in spite of what the instructor said.

Then one day, I showed up at the field, no one was there, but I wanted to practice taxi'ing around.. right turns, left turns, aborted take-offs, and so on. On one, well, I added a bit to much throttle and up she went. Well, I had it flying so I had to land it, right? So, I flew it around till I got up the nerve to take it in for an approach, which I did, and greased it in.. flawless landing right down the runway centerline.

Little did I know that I was so focused on flying the thing, I didn't hear the club President drive up and watch me.. right from just about the moment I took off till I landed it.

He ran up to me and yelled... "You solo'ed, I saw it!" and that was that. :D

Moral of the story is to stick with it and do what you have to do and don't push it until you are ready to solo. I can't complain about the results because in 11 years, I've only crashed three planes, and one was a junk S.P.A.D. Of the two other crashes, one was due to pushing myself in conditions that were beyond my abilities.. and the other, well, due to my stupidity at not raising the antenna.

Work at it and listen to your instructor. You picked a fine aircraft to learn with (one suggestion is to buy a second or third battery pack if you want more than one flight a day on the trainer).

Best of luck.

CGr.

Red,

I wish you all the best, Yes we all hate to lose the plane, of course so pre-emptive steps are great, having a club, instructor. Simulator does help, Sims are great great preliminary step in order to have the feeling of gimbals and how plane behaves. You will do the great and aileron controls get adverse when the plane comes to your direction.

Happy flying, and wish you all the best:D

Sorry forgot to add one thing.

I started off flying with Hangar 9's P51 Mustang PTS, but ended up get high wing trainer and swapped everything to new conventional high winger trainer the year was 2005 when I got married too:D. My high winger trainer, a friend of mine lost in the air, never was it ever found, he bought me an ARF after so many months, it was just like giving me $100 dollars after having me lost $400. Never said a word to him, as I knew he barely as he was my friend's neighbor, that plane never flew good as engine was not good enough old one. Crashed Mustang due to Rx failure back in my home country. Here in US lost GP Escapade due to receiver again, lost new H9's P51 Mustang PTS MKII RTF due to my stupid mistake, as I was trying an inverted high speed low pass.

Recently bought this plane Phoenix Model's Strega 40 ARF, no time of assembling it, a lot of work as my job + CCNA studies at college, but soon I'd assemble it. It's a fast format of P51 Mustang.

Another good addition to any newcomer's planes is an inexpensive plane locator...such as this

http://www.skykingrcproducts.com/acc...del_alarm.html

I bought a half dozen of them for about 4 bucks each from Hobby King.

It beeps after 60 seconds of no action from your rudder/aileron etc. I can't tell you how many times it helped me find my plane in a tall corn field. Rich

redcasey55,

Yes Strega is a racer, that's the first time I'm gonna fly racer, it's said to be P51 Mustang's Race version I guess. It's made by Phoenix Models, and I think LNEWQBAN told me that Phoenix Models are made in Vietnam, and their website is awesome and they do have some cool planes.

http://www.phoenixmodel.com.vn/

Not all models available in US.

Once again all the best to you, welcome to great harmless addiction:D Have you tried a free SIM knowns as FMS?
