Venom Servos
 

Does anyone have experience with Venom Servos such as this:

I need something with at least 90 oz/inch torque. Do you think these are reliable for a 60 sized 3D profile with a 90 sized engine?

I don't know about "the best in the business", but they are good servos.

You walk up to any rc track on any given sunday, take 10 random people that are at their canopies and say...

"First word to pop into your head, what's the best servo's on the market"???

What will they say?

The best servos are the ones that do what you intend for them to do at the price you want to pay.

I have, probably 30 to 40 servos, some in planes, some in boxes waiting for something to go in. Among them are Hitec, Futaba, Airtronics, and JR/Spektrum. I also have a few off-brand that I picked up cheap. They all have their place in the hobby.

I use good quality servos for ailerons and elevators, basic servos for throttle, and, if needed, some good quality servos for the rudder. It all depends on what you want out of them and what you intend to use them for.

Since this is a beginners forum, and we don't really deal with high end applications, mostly trainers, first or second planes, servos we often recommend are the lower end servos made by reputable manufacturers.... Airtronics, Futaba, JR/Spektrum, Hitec.

That doesn't mean that there are servos from others that don't do what we want, it's just that these are the ones we are familiar with. As radio systems, everyone has a choice.. preference, and you will get as many answers to questions as there are servo manufacturers.

I use Airtroincs 94102Z serovs.... at about $10.00 each and they do most of what I expect out of a beginners application. My Pattern plane has some higher end servos as does my Skylark 70, and they perform well. I've not tried a "lesser" servo because I'm satisfied with what I get out of the ones I use.

If someone recommends Hitec, someone else will recommend Futaba.. and so on. Many times, though, a choice is made based on what the people at your field are using and like. Does it make a difference? Not really. But, if it satisfies your needs, then whatever you choose is just fine.

In other words, read this stuff with a grain of salt. Sift through it and make a decision. Don't worry.. it will be the right decision no matter what servo you choose. Read the specs on each one you are looking a and get the one that fits your needs and pocket book.

The intent here was to explain to you that servos are a choice that you can make and that the choice you make is not going to ruin your whole day. Most of the servos mentioned are going to be just fine.

You will read all sorts of information from folks that mean well and are very well intended. Some will specify a specific brand or model and often, these are just fine. There are some you might consider and others you might as well steer away from. We've tried most of them and are trying to offer you what the basis of our knowledge points to the ones we are most familiar with.

Often, you get what you pay for. With servos, it's not the sort of thing you want to go "cheap" with because.. as i said, you often get what you paid for.

None of this is intended to scold or to try to force you to do something... quite the contrary. Most of us try to offer you the information to choose what we think is what will work for you and to try to save you some money.
