Replacing receiver antenna

I need to replace a broken antenna on an old PPM receiver. Is there anything I need to know, do's and don'ts. Are all 72mh antennas the same length, just to be sure what should it be from the solider joint to the end.

Thanks

Gary

Approximately 39"

Yup, 39". Be sure of your soldering skills before you start - there's not much room in there. Use a 15-20 watt pencil iron and "electronic" (tiny) rosin-core solder. Tin the end of the bare antenna wire, lay it on the solder pad on the PC board, and touch it with the tip of the iron. You should not have to apply more solder. It should melt instantly and you're done. Allow to cool.

If there is good wire outside the case then its also very simple to solder and shrinkwrap a splice there and you avoid the delicate circuit board. Just use a good quality stranded wire typically AWG 24 or 26, I prefer the thinner 26.

Do plan for 39 inchs or in the case of Hitec which by default are close to forty one inchs.

You might want to be sure of the length as some smaller rxs use a bottom loading coil and get a shorter antenna that way. FMA is an example.

What exact model rx is it?

Give the receiver antenna a little tug to make sure you have a good connection. Be sure to do the standard 100' range check before you fly.
