Battery and motor
<span style="font-size: small; "><span style="font-family: Arial; ">The plane that I am flying with is an Electrifly Yak 55, having a great time with it but I noticed my battery doesn't last more then 8 minutes. I am using a smaller battery then is recommended and noticed that I have to place the battery closer to the nose to balance the plane out. The motor size:<span class="Apple-style-span">Ball-bearing 370-sized motor.
Questions 1. Using a 2cell lipo battery at 440Mah will it destroy the motor. Recommended battery is 1250 - 1500mAh 3-series Lithium Polymer battery 2. I am noticing that I need to fly at full power at all times to get hieght would the recommended battery produce more power/lift or will it just give me longer flying times? I take it the 370 motor is a brushed motor ? A brushless motor and a ESC for a brushless motor would be a better set up. Then again, you could move into glow powered Engines. As for the battery, use the recommended number of cells with a higher mAh's rating (2100) or so. For longer duration. Do not discharge Any lipo to far !! Bob |

First what type of battery ( provide specs ) do you have on the plane now?
If the battery is alread a LiPo pack you can easily switch to a HIGHER CAPACITY pack. Higher Capacity ( mAh ) gives you more flight time. A higher capacity pack does not affect the electronics any differently than an existing pack of similiar specs. A higher capacity pack MAY give you a bit more power as the voltage level will remain more consistent longer. A higher VOLTAGE pack will give you more power, but it forces more energy through the electronics. You run the risk of ruining the electronics, ESC and motor you have now, with a higher voltage pack. You usually cannot simply swap out a NiMH or NiCD pack for a LiPo pack, unless the ESC is SPECIFICALLY made for this. You usually connot simply swap out a lower voltage pack for a higher voltage pack unless your electronics have a lot of excess capacity. |

I plugged in my new battery and noticed a big difference in power right away. I do want to know what is the white plug for on the battery? My smaller older battery does not have it and I use the JST2 to charge it up. Can I use the same plug on the newer battery or I am a little confused. please see attached picture.

whtwolf, i had this bird a few years ago , very good plane to try 3d stuff!. but you need a 3 cell li-po up to 1500 mah`s (which i had) or your wasting your time!. it will fly even better with that battery, so get 4 or 5 of them now!!!!!!

The White plug is for Balancing the battery while charging. The smaller pack is Probably a 2 cell lipo ? therefore no balancing plug. You really need a Good charger for all Lipos, ions, A123 Etc. Do a search here at RCU, theres tons of info. Bob |

The smaller battery is also a 3 cell battery at 450mah, The charger I picked up is the Hobbico Quickfield Charger MK2. Someone let me know that that is a good charger. As this is my first plane I am still learning a lot of information and really appreciate everyones input. As for getting more batteries, I have ordered two more so I can keep flying longer. I am really enjoying learning and flying and I do realize that there is a lot of information that I still need to learn. So far I have logged 34minutes of total flying time in two days. I still do not understand the balancing yet and if anyone has a link to more information that would be appreciated.<div></div><div>Thanks to everyone that is helping me learn.</div>
