Slight problem with ailerons...

My book recommends that my ailerons have throws of 5/8 up and 3/8 down for high rates. Well, mine does 3/8 up and 7/8 down... and I can't fix it, I got it as good as I could get. Will this be a problem? Will it still roll fine? I wanna be able to do basic aerobatics on my trainer so when I get my second plane I'll at least know what to expect.

Sounds like.....

......your servo horn is not centered. Remove the push rods and servo horn, place the transmitter (turned on) trim to the center, turn on the receiver, then replace the servo horn so that the arms are 90% to the push rods. Now replace the push rods and adjust to obtain neutral control surfaces. Measure the amount of throws and adjust push rods in, or out, on the control horns or servo arm until you get the throw you're looking for. This should get your throws very close to equal up/down movement.

If you want differential, as your book states, then it's an easy procedure. Just move the servo horn (with everything hooked up) one notch either CW or CCW and check the control surface throws again.

Hope this helps.

Use a control horn with the six sided configuration, and hook up the rods to the ones that point at the "10 o'clock 2 o'clock "positions, (assuming it's a high winger). This will pull the "up going" aileron more than it pushes the "down going" aileron". The reason this is done is to stop "adverse yaw" or the swinging of the wing in the oppisite direction, before it settles into a turn.
If all else fails, hook up you rods at the 9 and 3 o'clock positions, and don't much worry for now. You will have equal movement up and down, and you probably won't notice a thing.

Minnflyer,

I'm sure you've been asked a thousand times, but what program do you use to do your illustrations?
I'm in the process of writing a book, (not R/C) and need to illustrate. Thanks in advance,

Jetts

Jettstarblue is right on with the explanation of differential throw, which is what your manual is calling for.....and Minn's illustration is awesome as usual!! :D
