Over the weekend I got my first bottle of CA glue and some got on me as I was trying to open it what is the best way to get it off</p>

Just let it 'slough off' in time.

yep....it will come off in time...

There are debonders (acetone, etc, etc) but honestly those would be harder on the skin then just letting it fall off over time.

Acetone works well to remove CA, but it evaporates almost instantly on contact.

Your best bet is to apply a liberal amount to a rag then cover the CA spilled area with the rag quickly.

This gives the Acetone more working time to dissolve the CA, before it evaporates.

You can help the process along by rubbing the semi-dissolved CA.

Its an exceedingly bad idea to use acetone or any of the debonders directly on your skin. Thats stuff is nasty and can have collectively bad effects on your health.

Much, much better using nothing and just peeling off slowly with time. For what its worth CA was used as field sutures in Viet Nam and is used also for many kinds of closure instead of stitchs now. However this stuff is produced to a higher standards of purity and so forth for the medical use than what we use.

In a bad temp situation - its been used in field tillcan get to emerg room for better treatment - havent heard of any problems by not being Med Grade

Let it fall of by itself. If you have used thin CA, you may have some relief from the irritation by rubbing the skin on some smooth polish paper carefully. Dont overdo it though

Not that I disagree... but tell that to the nail polish remover sellers... it's primarily acetone...

Yup Acetone on the skin in any form is nasty Stuff but the nails don,t absorb it at high speed like the skin though.

Its a bad idea applying it directly to your skin.

Being a retired printer I have used much harsher things then acetone. I just peel the CA off with my teeth and give it a spit. Used to do the same thing back in the day with Ambroid glue, drove my mother nuts while watching TV. Scratch it off also works. A hot shower usually removes most of it. Just not a big deal unless it spills on my pants then starts getting hot as it cures!!

Acetone fumes are none to swift either.
Best used outside or at least when the wife is not home;)
Repeated applications work best when needed. I have UN-built a wing half this way.
Funny, that was the same day I discovered the building table had warped:D
I used it on another wing I bought and had to rebuild. The Ca gets rubbery the u scan scrape it off. In thick glued areas reaplication is needed. An absorbent material(rag) works well here too.

Acetone is also WONDERFUL at removing Linoleum Tile glues and causing the tiles to turn brittle....

Just don't ask my significant other how I know this! :D

Great advice all. But I think the big question before giving the advice, is WHERE on him did he spill the glue?[X(]

I've been around acetone and a lot of other nasty chemicals all my life, and I know there are still a few parts on me that acetone will sting like all get out if I were to use it or something similar on me. :eek::eek::eek:

And again, dependent on the location of the spill, I'm not sure I would want to wait for it to wear off, nor would I be up to chewing it off and spitting it out.:D

If your wife keeps Skin So Soft around it will also help you remove the CA from your skin. It moisturizes the skin and makes the top layer easier to slough off as you work it in from the edges.

I have been known to use coarse sandpaper to get CA off my fingers.

But as Glacier Girl points out, we don't know which body part he spilt the glue on[:-]

Zap-a-Gap Debonderavailable at many fly (FLY FISHING) shops.
You could try Kaufmann's Streamborn on line; The Fly Shop on line; Cabela's on line.....
Works okay if you get to the fused area QUICKLY and LIBERALLY.
I recommend buying like three bottles whenever you find it.
That glue is serious stuff regardless. A commitment. Ties incredibly tough flies.
