What we have here is a failure~~
 

OK I finally got a package I have been waiting for the last 3 days that required a signature soI thought I would head up to the club field to set my throttle controls to the transmitterand maybe taxi ormaiden if anyone was at the field. I can't run my motor at the home due to neighborswith the noise.
So I carefully checked the box to make sure I had what I needed as last time I went to break the motor in I forgot the fuel pump!
I headed to the field and about half way there I heard a broadcast that severe thunderstorms were headed my way. I thought surely that will stop me from doing what I wanted to do.
But I got there and the storm was still in the distance so I started to set up. I had just bolted the wing on when I noted that I had forgot to bring my transmitter! http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f.../omg_smile.gifSo I put it back in the van and headed home. About that time lightning started striking within a mile or so of the field and the rain started coming down pretty hard anyway.
I have to tell you if it were not for bad luck I don't think I would have any lately.
Oh well, try again in the morning, WX and memory permitting.

G'day When I go out for a fly and -

1. Forget some vital piece of kit

2. Damage something while getting set up

3. Have an engine that just will not start.

4. etc

I start thinking that perhaps I am not meant to fly today and I don't.

I have had days like this where everything went wrong and when I did finally get into the air, the results were not pretty.

Some days, you should just stay in bed.

I'm not superstitious, I just know they are out to get me!

Yes I suppose I could have been in the air and that storm could have swept in fast and then I would have really panicked.
As is it was pretty much there by the time I got it back in the car.
Of course if I had not went to the field it would have missed us!

Hello:

Last Sunday afternoon, when I went to the flying field, for some unknown reason I was nervous.

Sure enough, I came home with broken balsa.

There are times when it really is better to stay home.

Still, at least you got to the field. It can be enjoyable without flying. Watch the weather, watch the lightening watch the lightening hit the car, smell the sweet smell of gas and tires burning[sm=confused_smile.gif]......weellll maybe not the last part.
BUT if that's the worst thing you did it is still a great day!:D

One thing that helps is to have a check list. Just go through your checklist before leaving home each time. This works 100% of the time without failure unless you leave something off your checklist. I left a thing or two then decided that was enough and once going through a checklist a few times it then became habit getting everything.

In the last year and a half I only forgot a wing one time because I was in a hurry and did not follow through and had changed by carrying a new plane to the field and not updating my checklist. I carry several planes so it was no big deal for me.

Well, in that case you could try writing your checklist on your hand in ink! If that does not work then the last hope is therapy (or just buy another new plane-yeah, a new plane, that will do it!) :D :D :D

In order to insure I always had my checklist, I put it in my transmitter case.

I'm going to buy a trailer and keep everything in it. If I get to the field to find I have forgotten the trailer then I will know that It wasn't meant to be.:)

You know the funny thing is that I just don't have a system down yet.
I used to keep everything in it's location and I could reach for it blindfolded.
But I have not been back at this long enough yet to get organized and get things were they belong.
I have a cheap plastic roll around tool box that holds it all, I just have not mentally assigned a place for all of it yet.
Oh well, I thing we have all headed out somewhere or got there and found we did not have something we meant to take.
And if we can't laugh at ourselves~~well laughing at the other guy can get you in trouble.

I don't think anyone is laughing at you. We are laughing at ourselves as we have all been there too. I would venture to say that most, if not all of us have forgotten some critical item needed for flying such as a plane, wing, starter, fuel, pump, transmitter, etc... The other day I got to work and realized I left my laptop on the kitchen counter. Turned aroud ran back home and got it. Got back to the office only to find that in the process of getting my computer I managed to then leave my cell phone on the counter.

if we're keeping score. I've forgotten;
transmitter -lost count
wrong transmitter-geez
wings- at least a dozen times
extra fuel- can't count that high
flight box- more times than I'll admit too
wing bolts - we won't go there
however I take great pride in the fact that I have not forgotten a fuselage, yet:D

G'day KrashKart. Way back in the mists of time when I was about 11, I used to live for going flying every Sunday. The field was too far from my home for me to ride my bike so I had to get a lift. I would go rain, hail or shine if I could get a lift. We used to use nylon control handles which were circular so you could wind the control lines around the outside for storage and in use the wire would pass through the handle about half an inch from your fingers. I can remember flying with storm clouds overhead and small sparks jumping from the wire to my hand. I must have been mad.

More recently when I started to fly RC, I lived in part of Australia where it actually snows in winter and where winter is pretty cold, wet and miserable. But that did not stop us heading out each Sunday for a fly. On the not so good days, the cloud base would be so low that models used to disappear into it. Again - I think we were mad.

These days I live in the inland where it is very hot in summer and pretty cool in winter and windy quite a bit of the time. I no longer go out if it is raining though some still do but I head out in most other conditions. If you can't fly, you can always chat and we seem to do a lot of that.

This hobby really does get you in.

If I tried that Dave, I would check everything on the list, put the list back in the transmitter case and then leave the transmitter case home [&:][:@]:D
