Senior Telemaster~where?

I need another plane.
I thought I wanted a Telemaster Senior but it appears that maybe Hobby-Lobby is a sole source and they are out of stock until Oct.
I found some on the east coast but as it turns out they are all set up for electric and would have to be reinforced for glow, or so the supplier told me.
Does anyone know of a supplier for telemaster other than Hobby-Lobby that has the glow SeniorTelemasters?

RE: Senior Telemaster~where?

NOPE- Sorry only Hobby Lobby has the rights to dist them -some HS may be retailing them from Hobby Lobby
Wish I could tell ya something better

I have one

Check with the ones that say electric as mine was and they have the motor mounts in them so is the gas tank supplied so in my guess it is a gas with electric instructions and any builder can mount ther asnk and motor all rest is the same PS Icut the cheeks off and made the firewall 1/2 in and will install a 26cc Zenoah on it and struts

O by the way its my new Skydiver Jump plane should take up 3 jumpers

Interesting.
I did find some, but they claimed they were all electric as stated.
The only thing I can buy at Hobby-Lobby right now is the full kit, which may be the way I go.
I really like the slow flight characteristics of the Telemaster.

RE: Senior Telemaster~where?

Converting to gas is not so hard. Size of plane is deceptive. Unless you are doing some major weight lifter app, a Tele will putter aorund happily on an average 60 2 stroke or a 70 to 80 4 stroke. Do not need a high vibration monster. And gluing some maybe 1/8" lite ply with lightening holes on the outside of the nose is not a big deal.

The plane is sturdy but that is due more to sophisticated design than chunks of wood.

There are some Teles from time to time on EBay. I got an ARF there at 10% less than factory price.

Just some notes on the Tele

redo the strut mounts in the wing make them all way between the spars with a blind nut on the top side

make the strut ends with a flat pieceof bent metal and hole on fuze end do the same and make a strap to go from one side of the plane under it to attach the struts to and you will have a very strong set of wings
I use a 2 piece wing and that setup for my jump plane
70 4s works great also a strong 46 flyes them as a lot use 46s at our field on them and a few 60c
good luck
PM me if I can help

You could get a Sig LT-40. It's almost an exact copy of the Tele and much easier to build (Or get the ARF version)

RE: Senior Telemaster~where?

I have an original electric Telemaster ARF that I converted to glow.

The electric motor mount and the battery box just peeled out of it with a pair of pliers

I suppose it wasn't exactly an ARF as I then had to engineer the glow motor mount and fuel tank location. Still it wasn't like building from scratch.

Here is my LT-40 ARF converted to a Tail dragger

It flies a lot like a Telemaster

There's another European plane you will see on RCU called the Precedent T240 and smaller 40 size, the T180.

Precedent is recently out of business, bought out by Ripmax?

The plane has the flying surfaces of the Telemaster with a deeper fuselage up to F2 and clear windows

Many people call them Telemasters also.

RE: Senior Telemaster~where?

Yes I saw those.
They were the ones that told me that they were electrics only and would need to be converted.

TNX but the full kits (if that's what you have)are available. I think I would spend as much money building the full kit as I would to buy teh ARF when it becomes available early Oct.

I would be willing to bet 'Three burned out glow plugs aginst a Stale Glazzed Donut that the only diff between the the 95 inch Tellys boxed as electric or as glow is the engine/motor mount thrown in the box.

In either case buying either is no big deal if ya want one.

Here is my 95 inch Telly AKA Six Pack or the Gentle Giant:

If you want a giant, slow-flying airplane, why not build a Mud Duck? :D

10-4 on that comment. As I have one converted from electric ARF to glow.

Quick question for those that known the plane~
Do the wings come apart for easier transport?
I have a van and have 8' available but it sure would make life easier transport wise.

RE: Senior Telemaster~where?

The ARF wings are two piece and it is your choice to permanently attach at the joint or not. If you do not its advisable to use the struts. The fellows I have worked with chose to permantently join and not use the struts.

W8ye,

Yes, Ripmax bought Precedent, but it wasn't recently - it was in 2000 or 2001. They promptly shut the kit production down as their first act, preferring to concentrate on ARF stuff. I assume this cost several jobs in the UK. This ended a line of really good builder's kits. I have built the 1/4 Aeronca Champ and have been looking to buy the Turbulent kit if I can locate in the USA. Found one in England just before a trip there last year, and found that the box was too long to carry onboard. To check as luggage was going to cost a fortune, and shipping was no bargain either, so I gave up. Life used to be simpler.

don't the arfs have wood beam mounts bult into the the airframe, see the bare wood that's what i talking about

RE: Senior Telemaster~where?

I cheek plated over and filled in the holes in F1 with thin plywood and used a Great Planes plastic engine mount trimming out the old beams to clear the mount

The original poster wants to use glow not electric. thats what those beam mounts are there for in the first place.

I would speculate that those beam mounts are there for either package. This simple little conversion may make the differance from the gentleman ever even getting the airplane he wants.

W8 has even posted how he did it.

Krashkart if you want a 95 inch telly then I would not pass on the chance. Heck I notice you even have the choice of two colors. Something HL did not have for a long time. Another factor is you wont get stuck with those horrible hobby lobby stickers all over it. Those were pre applied and you had no choice.

RE: Senior Telemaster~where?

I have had and flown the Senior Telemaster, the Sig LT-40, and the Sig Senior Kadet. Each is a trainer, but there are some marked differences. The Senior Telemaster (kit or ARF) is the largest of the 3 with the 96" wingspan. With a .60 sized glow engine it was a handful for me to fly, especially as a novice pilot and with 10 mph or more of wind. You really need to add rudder when executing turns and while there is nothing wrong with that, it takes some time to learn. The Sig LT-40 (I've only had the kit) is a pleasure to build and fly. It has a 70+ inch wingspan and can be flown on as little as a OS FP-40 with no problem. You can make turns easily with aileron only, and it seems to be able to handle wind better than the Senior Telemaster. My favorite of the group is the Sig Senior Kadet ARF (80" wing). With the metric hardware it is a little on the frustrating side to assemble, and the Sig covering could be better, but boy is it a great plane to fly. The wing comes in two pieces and is a bolt on wing. Flying this plane in winds more than 14 to 15 miles an hour is no fun, especially in landing. Any of the three can be converted to electric and do fine as electrics. I have also seen several articles showing folks who have converted the Sig planes to electric. If you purchase the Senior Telemaster ARF, they assume that you will be assembling it with electric power as there is no fuelproofing in the engine area as well as in some of the other areas.
