Go to your local Mercury Outboard dealer and pick up a can of cleaner. It cuts the crap left for two strokes. Worked for over 40 yrs.

Possibly it is difficult to find because of it's appearance and what we expect it to look like. It is in a deep blue opaque plastic spray bottle that is smaller than a Windex bottle. I found it with the dish washer detergent not with the cleaners.

I found that if you are regular with the cleaning, you can keep the exterion quite clean with just normal soap water and a toothbrush. Get the engine absolutely dry afterwards with a heat gun or hair drier or you will get rust on the GI parts like screws etc

In this instance...its to clean an engine I stored since last season. I used air tool oil to lube everything and placed it in a ziplock bag. Well, I pulled it out the other day and the entire thing is covered. Maybe I used too much oil - just maybe! Its not caked on or anything, so maybe soap and a toothbrush would work just fine.
I just like to know excess info in case I ever need to use it! |

A soft polishing with a Brillo pad or fine steel wool does wonders for baked on crud on mufflers. And it comes out all shiny. ;-)
