Glow/Gas model float planes
 

I have been interested in float planes for a long time but never had one.
I fish frequently at a very quiet 15 acre lake just minutes from my home here in the mountains.
That lake is very clam and getting back in this hobby I have been even more intrigued with the idea of a float plane.
I saw the care taker of the lake and ask him if anyone runs boats or flies planes off the lake. I was surprised when he told me that there is a law/policy that you cannot use gas motor of any kind on the lake for any reason as the lake is one that is in our city water supply. That makes sense of course.
It got me to wondering how many have run into a problem with flying off a lake with gas/glow planes with the possibility of contamination of course of the water. Yes I know we have a very small volume of fuel on board.
It would seem for this reason that electric power may be a better choice for both boats and float planes?

before investing in electric just for float flying, I'd ask about even being able to use the lake for RC flying. they may have something against the batteries, part of my job requires me to be a member of KWEA, or Kansas Water Enviormental Assovation, each state has one and some can get very, should I say anal about how the water is used. supposedly in calif. some lakes you can't use lead fishing weighs

Yes, I know.
When I retired and left CA (couldn't afford to retire there in 1993) we had to clean our garage out.
We took a lot of stuff to the dumps. While there and sorting some of the stuff for the landfill we were told that they already had been hit with regulations that stated that anything that could cause an eye irritation could not be accepted there in the near future.

In case you need something else to worry about, out here in Colorado they are now inspecting our float planes for zebra mussels on the way in and out of the few lakes where they allow us to float fly. We're subject to the same inspection as 30 foot power boats! But it's always best to check for, and comply with, local regs as the alternative is never good.

them muscles are pretty nasty critters, we've got them and the ever popular asian carp:)

I've heard about those asian carp but we don't have them yet. Please don't tell me you were just taking off and one of those jumped out and totaled your float plane!!!!!!! Float flying is a tough environment. A few weeks back we had a fellow dead stick a Northstar out there. No problem, nice landing but a ways out. Anyway, an American White Pelican got a little curious and took a whack at it while it was sitting dead in the water. The NS is a tough plane......but not THAT tough! You gotta love this hobby : )
