Default Advice on Brushless Sensorless speed control for B4.1

My Associated B4.1 currently has the SC450-BL brushless sensorless speed control from the stock RTR kit. Last weekend all it took was a few drops splashed from a small puddle to knock it out of commission.

I already have a replacment on the way, but in the long-term what would be a good upgrade for this speed control? Preferably I'd like something that is a drop-in replacment, which means having 3.5mm bullet ends for my motor to plug into, etc.

Or would it make much more sense to upgrade to a sensored system?

I mainly run 2s LiPos but I would like it to be able to run 3s LiPos also.
