Brushless Motor Recommendation for Sig Rascal 49"
I have recently purchased a Sig Rascal with the 49" wing span. It came with a Speed 400 motor with a noisy gear box. It barely has adequate power. I want to replace this motor with a direct drive brushless motor preferably a PJS motor from Hobby Lobby. I am not sure which size I need to go. would the PJS 800 would be too much?
I run 8 cell NiMH 1100 batteries in this plane.

With max efficiency at 19amps, I have a feeling that your batteries may not be up to the task.
You might take a look at the Nippy 1608/160, it looks like your batteries may be able to handle that better.
The AXI 2212/34 will give you just a bit better performance than a standard geared 400 at 10 amps or less.
