Default Watt Meter

Using an AstroFlight Watt Meter I am trying to figure out if a motor that I have is any good(GWS 350 - C gearing with a 9070 prop).

The reading I get with the questionable motor is as follows:
5.0A 8.2V
42W .058AH

This reading was derived at just over half throttle.

I then connected a new motor and ran it at the same throttle setting and everything on the read-out is the same except for .194AH. Does this make sense to anyone?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Peter

Hello... NEWMAN! (vague Seinfeld reference if you live in a plastic bubble)

Sounds like the motor is just fine. The .194Ah readout is the amount of energy used. You probably didn't disconnect the battery from the Whattmeter between tests, and it recorded the cumulative energy used by both motors.

hmm... I cant figure this out then. I used an 1100mah battery for the test, but in flight I use an 800mah and it cuts out in about 10 seconds at full throttle while taking off and gaining altitude.

Any idea what that might be? The battery maybe?

Anyways, I just got the meter and the instructions dont exist. What exactly am I looking for on the readout when comparing prop/motor/battery setup?

You should be looking for amps and watts. High watts = more power///// high amps= hotter motor(higher temp) The smaller battery may have too much internal resistance and the voltage drops below ESC low limit and the motor quits.

If you motor is pulling 5A at half throttle it may well be close to 10A or so at WOT. Your 800 pack is probably made from 5/4AAA cells which are no good at any more than 6-7A max - as Jim says, the voltage will drop dramatically if you overstress that battery pack, and the Low Voltage Cut-off will kick in. The 1100 is perhaps made from AA or 2/3A cells and can cope with 10A without such dramatic voltage drop. You need to get some packs which are happy to supply 10A comfortably (KAN 1050 would be fine).

Cheers, Phil

thanks,
