Default mega 16/15/4, did i make a mistake?

i bought a mega /4 as it was available, read several threads where people were happy with the speed (mostly Stembridge from wingwarrior and a thruster) on 8 cells. these are kan 1050 and 800AR cells, both handle 20 amps i believe. CC phoenix 25 using a carbon 5x5 spoon prop (hoping to get some rpms) im very disappointed in speed.

no faster or better than a speed 400 or cobalt i bought...

numbers are as follows: 14amps at 17,400 and 122watts on 8 cell
tried a 10 cell, and got 15 amps and 18,300 or so and 140 or so watts.

my friends have the mega /3 and they still blow me away on 8 cells. 10 cells didnt look any better just on the ground.

am i propped right or do i need more prop and more cells or? anyone wanna swap motors?

the batteries they use are the kan 1050's as well..

Hi

the 16/15 low winds are capable of 300watts!! I swing a 7x6 on my /3 it it is bairly warm after a 17 min flight!

i think you need way better cells as the KAN1050s are the limit here.

pop in 1950Faup or a 3s li-po and you will get performace!

your /4 should be able to perform simular, just add one inch on prop diameter, and feed it with some good juice from the battery.

Yep, the KAN1050s are starting to suffer from severe voltage depression at 15 Amps. Definitely not good for extended runs.

A popular choice for lightning-quick Projetis around here is the /3 on 8 cells, and they're running CP1300 NiCds or 1950 HR4/5FAUP NiMHs. Use 10 of the 1950 HR4/5FAUP cells and your /4 will come alive. Maybe even a 6x6 prop for even better speed.

thanks,
the kan 8 cells seem to do fine on the /3 for my friends easily. i know its a hotter motor, but what about prop size and 8 cells? looking for speed plus verticle if possible to keep up with them..

this is on 48in wings.

Get the 1300s or Faups... you will be amazed bout the power! a bit heavier, but the speed will be amazing!!

I would go with Matt and suggest a 6x6 of good quality, Graupner CAM or APCE. maybe even a 7x6

BTW

/3 on 8KAN 4,7x4,7 pulls 18Amps ~140watts drives a microjet well... same motor bigger pack and it drives the "big" Spitfire very well.

When the hotrod Projetis land, the CP1300s are piping hot. On more than one ocassion the shrinkwrap has actually been melted. I don't know how they're getting away with KAN1050s.

still havent seen 6x6 prop size available yet in those props. probably start with cp 1300 and 6-5.5, maybe 7x4 ish..

Ronbo,

A prop with a 4" pitch won't give you the speed you desire. The 7x4 will let you outclimb your opponents, but they'll still be flying circles around you

from what ive read, probably go with 1700 aup type cells, if i can find some.

again, i havent seen 6x6 offered readily, but i have seen 7x7... might be too much? 7x5 would be better than 7x4 possibly... wont know till i try em...

I don't think you made a mistake but I use 8 1800 mah Hecell or 8 CBP 1800 mah and my wing is very fast, much faster than a speed 400. I just don't think the 1050 batteries are enough and I can't believe they don't melt with a Mega 16/15/3 motor.
I would check the programming on your speed control, hopefully it is a Phoenix 25 that can be programmed from your PC.
