350C was a nice engine, short life though, 20 flights aprox, what do you experts recomend for replacement?

Pd: brushes are gone and the plates for the brushes too!

Wouldn't call myself an expert, but just curious if you liked the motor before, why not just get a new one?

I've seen many hear recommend the brushless set-ups, but at over 5x the cost of brushed set-up, that's a lot of motors.

problem is that its life was quite short, and because I´m in south america the cost of shipping is more than the replacement.
what about a cdrom motor?

Did you try to break it in first.....i tried the running in water on a D cell for 2 hours.....water turned black from dirt/brush material......but the motor spun 4 times as easy after that. Also the motor has not flucuated in RPM or anything.

I was doing the same thing, liked the setup, but, was going thru many $12.95 +shipping motors! That's when I found the MTM 400F from Balsa Products. Motor $49.95 with combo of motor and ESC at $107.00 These motors are twice as powerful and never wear out, weigh the same! I have already more than bought the motor with what I spent on the replacement brushed one! Here is the link.

You learn something everyday. First I've heard of people using out runner motors in a gearbox. Price does seem right. Himaxx is also coming out with an out runner motor, and I expect GWS will not be too far behind with their brushless motors.

When I suggested replacing the 350C, I suppose I was thinking of one's interest in and the lifespan of the craft. I am new at the game, but since funds are limited, I'm likely only going to brushless for the planes that I know I'll be flying a lot. Yes, you can swap out parts, but for me, it never seems to work that way.

thanks for the input, GWS now making brushless mmmm... I don`t want to buy new lipo`s and I have 2s 1200 etecs (to avoid notor burning of 3s) what motor can I use then? almost all the references are with 3s packs...

There are lots of choices in the "350C brushless replacement size range" - the MMM 400F (geared), the 400T (direct drive) or the MMM 300DF (geared, or DD with small props), the AXI 2212 series (direct drive), the Himax 2808-980 (direct drive), the Nippy 0808/98 (direct drive), the whole Himax 2015/2025 range, the Feigao 20mm series, Astros, Hackers.........

Do a lot of research and figure out exactly what is best for your particular aircraft and flying style.

To add to Dr Kiwi's comments, you'll probably find that there are MANY different "best" solutions. That's okay. Pick one. Don't get all mired down in trying to find the one absolute best solution, because there's no such thing. Pick a motor brand with a good reputation for quality and service, take someone's advice, or just plain copy what someone else has already done.

what`s better for my 2S lipos... himax (or e- flite-same no?) 4100 or 5400?? what`s the difference?

I guess I'm curious too about the 5400 since I just bought one with a CC25 controller yesterday. I plan on putting mine in my 350D box and playing with it on my FFF planes.

Ray - if you plan to stay with 2s the 5400Kv is the better choice - gear it down a fair bit (but on 3s you are liable to overcook/over-rev a 5400). For 3s the lower Kv 4100 is the better choice.

Daniel - brushed motors are better if the brushes are bedded in to conform to the commutator (prevents arcing at high voltage). Just connect the motor (no prop of course!) to a D-cell and dangle it in a bowl of water - run it for 15 minutes or so. You'll see the water become cloudy with carbon particles which have been worn off the brushes as their originally flat surfaces become concave as they bed in to the comm.

thanks a lot, I think I will buy brushed motors untill christmas passes, prices go down and after that I will buy a brushless, because I have notice that my 350c Dx pulls 17 oz on 2 cells (as foamyfactory site says, and assuming that it is right) and most brushless can hit only 18 oz on the same volts so, it is not a bad option to wait I think, besides I have the disgusting feeling that I will be forced to move to 3 cell lipos ($!) to get more thrust.
Am I right?
