Default PHOENIX 25 TIMING ADVANCE QUESTION..

I am a newbie to brushless motors/esc..and see that the timing on the esc can be advanced from the standard setting to advanced...has anyone done this and is the power difference real noticeable/?..im using a himax 2812-1080 and was wondering if it would be worth the time to try the advance setting..or if I wouldnt notice a performance increase..or if it would damage the motor..im running a 9x5 gws.H.D. prop on my himaxx direct drive motor...also..I just biught this esc last week..do I need to get any updates online for it??...and how will I know when there are updates aviliable that should be downloaded??...

Timing is more of a "whatever works best" setting. Outrunner motors work better with "hard/advanced" timing while conventional motors are more efficient running with a standard or retarded setting.

If you have a Castle Creations Phoenix 10 or 25 it will automatically sense the moltor type by inductance and run an outrunner on High Advance - so much for NE Sail's advice.

Cheers, Phil

My Himax 2808 manual says to leave the setting on the Castle Creations ESC to standard for the timing. Check your manual to see if it verifies this info or not.
