Opening up a Himax
Hi. I had a Himax 2025 4200KV chucked in the nose of my new wattage Hawk. Maiden was OK, plane could easily outrun a .25 size plane. On the second flight I got a radio hit so it went in and bent the shaft. Trying to straighten it out with needle nose pliers, to my horror, the shaft broke. I got hold of a new shaft/rotor to replace the broken one. My question is, how do you open the motor case in order to just drop in the rotor? I don't want to experiment as I don't want to ruin the motor again. Do I need special tools such as a crowbar or jackhammer to get it done? Thanks. Joseph

RE: Opening up a Himax
can't help you with the install...I am sure someone will chime in on that...but I did want to advise you in the future not to try and straighten any shaft that spins with any amount of speed. You will never get it perfect and it will cause damaging vibrations to your aircraft. I am a heli guy and our main shafts dont spin near as fast as a prop shaft and any bend in those is bad news...always replace damaged Hi speed parts what ever they are(shafts, props, rotorblades ect...)

RE: Opening up a Himax
hello,
The way to get it off is most likely to use heat. Simply use a turbo-torch or whatever can get it very hot. The locktight or solder will let go at the right temp whatever you do be gentle, and dont use too much heat. I discovered this on my Model Motors Mini Ac. My motor gets so hot when you pull 25 amps, it made both sides come lose! And it melted the zip ties holding her down, causing prop stikes to the control horn, wing, and esc!
Hope this helps...and dont burn yourself like i do!
