Align motors
Does any one have any experiance with the Align BL motors??
http://www.align.com.tw/shop/product...roducts_id=756
specificaly the SF400 series, are any of them suited to direct drive on say a 3DF plane?
I was thinking of the 1100Kv one for direct drive or the 2800Kv one for say a 6-1 box

RE: Align motors
The link didn't come through; the "..." in the middle is translated as a "...". Align rings a bell, but I can't think of where I heard the name before. What's nice about electric motors is that as long as they're not total junk, they can be convinced to perform.
Going by what I typically see, a 2800Kv motor would be more suited to a 4:1 or even a 3:1 ratio, unless you're thinking about spinning an extremely large prop for mostly hovering maneuvers. The 6:1 gear ratios are better suited for hotter motors in the 4100, 4200 Kv range.

So Matt what your saying is typicaly say an 1100kv or 1500kv is more suited to direct drive aplications.

RE: Align motors
My friend is using an Align 400l 2500 kv on a Stryker wing. He is using a 7x6 direct drive prop, it draws about 29 amps.
The Stryker with the Align is comparable to a Mega 16/15/4 with a 6 x 4 prop.
Another of my flying buddies is putting together a Stryker with the Align 400s 2800 kv motor.
If you try these motors get the heatsink!

RE: Align motors
the "F" motors have a cooling fan as part of the rotor so may be this will help, but for the extra few bucks i'll get a heat sink as well.
