Default Brushless ESC & Motor Issue

hello:

I got few newbie questions, hope you guys can help me out!

I just got two sets of B20 BL motor with 18A BL ESC for my plane, anyway, I had set up the system, when I try to run them, the motor alway shake in the beginining for 1 or 2 seconds before the motor will turn smoothly. Is this normal? or Do I have two defective motors?

I am also plan to put my second set motor and esc into my mini-t (the stock motor weared out), but it's a airplane bl motor and esc. Will I have any problems if I do this?

What is the difference between an plane BL esc and a car BL esc anyway, besides the reverse function on the car esc?

thanks
jay

Default RE: Brushless ESC & Motor Issue

A little shake at the beginning is normal. It's the ESC trying to figure out which way the motor is turning. The skahing is worst on deeply geared motors, or bare motors. However, 1-2 seconds is too long. Try changing the timing setting on the ESC if you can.

Car ESCs tend to have heat sinks, and are more robust due to the conditions that they're subjected to. I've tried running an airplane ESC with a car transmitter, and while it works, it's a bit inconvenient. Full brake on the transmitter is zero throttle, neutral is about 1/3 throttle, so you have to hold the brake to keep the car from moving.

You might want to take a look at the Castle Creations "Mamba" brushless ESC for a car.
