How is the Astro Flight Mighty Micro 010 Geared ?
Hi
I have just acquired an Astro Flight Mighty Micro 010 Geared motor + ESC
Can you guys out there who own this motor let me know typical setup for a good sport aerobatic aircraft?
Things like max all up weight, wing loading, wing area , prop- -----------etc.
I want to use AAA 600 to 800 mAH NIMH's - should I go for 8 or 10 cells?
what kind of flight times can be expected
I know there are a lot of software tools - but can can someone give me REAL figures from real experience
Is there a full review of this on the web?
Thanks

RE: How is the Astro Flight Mighty Micro 010 Geared ?
www.astroflight.com has a comprehensive specifications page on the 010, including a few example setups. You'll probably want to limit an aerobatic plane's all-up weight to 12-14oz.
When going to choose pack size, keep in mind that Volts are like cubic inches. 10 cells will give you more power than 8, since you're running 12V at up to 7.5 Amps (90 Watts) versus 9.6 Volts at up to 7.5 Amps (72 Watts). If you need more power, go with 10 cells. Me? I'm always up for more power, so I'd use 10 regardless of what I put the motor in.
But that cell choice... Can I recommend something different? Have a look at the CBP650 or KAN650 2/3AA NiMH cells. They're much better suited to provide the juice so the motor can do what it was designed to do. Usable capacity will be about the same, because you're overloading the AAA cells at 7.5 Amps, and depressing their capacity.

Thanks guys for all the info
Nice looking plane Greg - what kind of flying times do yot get ??
And yes Matt - I'll try to find the 2/3 AA batteries. The part of the world where I live doesn't always allow me the luxury to pick and choose the right eqpt - one has to often do with what one finds

Oh, I didn't notice you were in Moscow... That might present a problem. If you must go with the AAA batteries, use the 800mAh ones that are a little longer than the regular AAAs.
By the way, my 010 setup is on an Eflite Ultimate. 3.75:1 gear ratio, 12x3.8 Eflite prop, 3S 1200mAh Tower Hobbies LiPolys.

Here is a pick of it. It is on the plane on the right. 3 Cell 860 mah li ploy, and 10/4.7 prop with 15+ min flight times.
PS: the glasses are to big for my head.
