Graupner 280 6V Motor Question
I am looking at battery packs to buy to run a Graupner 280 6V motor. I am looking at 8.4V 1100Mah Nihm packs, but is this overkill? These are 2/3 A cells in the pack, so they shouldnt be too heavy. What will these motors handle? I cant find much info on them. Thanks!

RE: Graupner 280 6V Motor Question
The big question is: For what?
What are you intending on flying with this motor? That, more than anything, will determine what battery you need, and even whether or not the 280 motor is an appropriate choice.
That said, for any airplane this motor would have the capacity to fly, 2/3A cells would be far too heavy. 8.4V is about the maximum voltage you'd want to put through a 280 if you expect it to last for any length of time.

RE: Graupner 280 6V Motor Question
I am putting this in a Herr Mini-Sport EP. Its says that a 7 Cell 750mah Nihm pack will run it 25 minutes with a speed 280 motor. I just cant figure out what size cells these are.

RE: Graupner 280 6V Motor Question
I've seen 750mah sized batteries in both AAA and 2/3AA. You are looking at about a 3.5oz for a 7C pack. The 2/3AA will let you draw more amps, from what I've seen, but I don't know if that would be necessary with a 280. Matt?
I have the MiniSport too--not built yet, but it asks for a 280BB motor. It's a bit more powerful than a regular 280, if I recall, and expensive. Tower has a replacement 280BB for a Yak, I believe, that is less than the Great Planes 280BB.
If you need a link, let me know.

RE: Graupner 280 6V Motor Question
Im working on building mine right now, and thats part of the reason why I am trying to figure out what to put in it. It came with the Graupner 6v 280 motor and folding prop in the kit, so thats what I was planning on using.

RE: Graupner 280 6V Motor Question
fish,
im using hobby lobby`s 7 cell folded AAA 720mah nimh with my graupner tipsy that has the 280 motor and it flys OK and lasts for about 20 minutes. if you look on e-bay there are alot of these batterys on there for a good price (alot less than hobbylobby and same battery) hope this helps.
