One of the good places to find out is gobrushless.com They have a forum to ask questions ond make motor kits to fit many different sized planes. Built a few myself and they work very well. Have fun.

My homemade CD-ROM type motors are in the following planes:
9 oz. parkflyer (Hobby Lobby Rare Bear)
12 oz. 3D plane
13 oz. pusher jet
20 oz. J3 Cub
I use parts mainly from www.GoBrushless.com and www.StrongRCMotors.com.
